
TCU Upends UNLV Friday Night, 63-59

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - TCU improved to 5-0 on the season, claiming a 63-59 victory over UNLV Friday night inside the Thomas and Mack Center.
The Horned Frogs will play Washington on Saturday night for the Championship of the Global Sports Classic. Start time is set for 9:30 p.m. CT and will be shown live on Campus Insiders.
The Rundown
Freshman Desmond Bane carried the Frogs, scoring a team-high 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. Vladimir Brodziansky was the only other Frog in double-figures, tallying 14 points on 4-of-8 from the floor. The junior did most of his damage in the first half, scoring 11 in the opening frame. Kenrich Williams led the Purple and White on the glass Friday, corralling a career-high 18 rebounds. He also tied a career-high in blocks with three on the night.
UNLV (3-2) was led by Jaylen Poyser's 19 points on 6-of-14 from the field. Dwayne Morgan and Tyrell Green were also in double-figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
For a fifth-straight game, TCU out-rebounded its opponent. This time to the tune of 42-39, while also blocking seven shots Friday night. The Horned Frogs also totaled a 34-2 advantage in points off the bench, while forcing the Runnin' Rebels into 19 turnovers and only 38.6 percent shooting for the game.
UNLV would score the first five points of the second half until Jaylen Fisher found JD Miller off an inbounds for a jumper to tie it at 32-32 with 17:32 on the clock. A few plays later, Brandon Parrish would knock down a triple to regain the Horned Frog lead at 35-34.
Williams would give TCU a 40-36 advantage at about the 13-minute mark, swatting away a would be shot on one end and then running out for a flush moments later to ignite the Purple and White attack. Alex Robinson would add to the score at 42-38 with 12:36 on the clock, scoring on a finger roll.
By the time Malique Trent scored an old fashion three-point play at the 11:37 mark, TCU had opened a 45-40 advantage. Williams increased the Horned Frog advantage off a monster put-back at the 10:21 mark.
With TCU leading 50-49 following a mini-run by UNLV, Bane unleashed another triple to silence the crowd for the time being with a little over 5 minutes remaining in the contest. The two teams would trade possessions the next couple of trips as the Frogs would take a 56-54 lead with 3:07 remaining in the game.
TCU increased its advantage to 59-55 down the stretch at the charity stripe and then put the game on ice to improve to 5-0 on the young season.
UNLV jumped out to an 11-2 lead early, but TCU would score four-straight to cut it to 11-6 at about the 15-mintue mark. Brodziansky, who scored eight out of the first 12 points for the Purple and White, would inch the Frogs closer at the 13:06 mark, scoring on a turn-around hook.
TCU would close the gap to four at the free throw line a few minutes later and then watch as Bane made it a 19-15 game midway through, tickling the twine from deep. The Frogs proceeded to go on a 9-0 run to take a 24-19 lead, which was highlighted by a three from Fisher in the corner at the 8:51 mark, but UNLV was able to answer to pull within one.
The two teams would back and forth the rest of the half until Brodziansky scored in the final seconds to give the Frogs a 30-27 lead at the break.
TCU Notes
TCU improved to 5-0 on the season with the win.
TCU has now won two-straight over UNLV.
TCU is 5-0 this season when out-rebounding its opponent.
