Pierre scores career-high 25 points on way to 1,000 for his career
WACO, Texas – Playing without its leading scorer and rebounder, TCU built a 17-point lead in the second half and swept the season series of Baylor in a 97-90 win over the Bears on Saturday.
It was the fourth-straight win by the Horned Frogs (13-7, 3-4) in Waco and they remained unbeaten (3-0) in Foster Pavilion.
David Punch was unable to play due to illness, but that left more points for Xavier Edmonds and Jayden Pierre who each scored a career high. Edmonds had 23 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the week. Pierre finished with 25 points and in doing so, went over 1,000 career points.
After being tied at the half for the first time this season, 38-38, TCU built its biggest lead of the game, 77-60 with 4:50 remaining. The Frogs led 78-65 with 3:21 to play before the Bears (11-8, 1-6) started fouling nearly every TCU possession.
Despite Baylor making seven of its last nine field goal attempts any potential comeback was squashed by TCU's ability to hit free throws. The Frogs went 18-of-22 in the final 3:21 of the game, part of an 81.4 percent effort for the game which totaled 35 free throws in 43 attempts. It was the most makes and attempts of any TCU Dixon-led team.
Brock Harding scored 16 points and led TCU with six assists. Tanner Toolson scored 12 points off the bench.
TCU will next host No. 6 Houston on Wednesday at 8 p.m. The game in Schollmaier Arena will air on ESPN2.
