Edmonds records third-straight double-double
FORT WORTH – An improved second half defense was not enough for a comeback as TCU dropped a 79-70 game to No. 10 Houston on Wednesday in Schollmaier Arena.
In a battle of two top 20 ranked defenses, the Horned Frogs (13-8, 3-5) thrived in the second half, holding the Cougars (18-2, 6-1) to 28.6 percent shooting from the field. With that, TCU was able to nearly wipe away a 15-point deficit in the second half following a first half were the Cougars shot 61.5 percent.
The Frogs used an 11-2 run to make it a six-point game, 47-41, five minutes into the period. A three by Liutauras Lelevicius with 10:54 to play cut it to two, 51-49. TCU trailed by two points two other occasions, the latest with 8:59 to play.
Every time the Frogs got close, the Cougars had an answer. Many times, that came at the free throw line where Houston made 22-of-24 attempts for 91.7 percent. In the second half alone, Houston was 17-of-19.
TCU shot 64 percent (16-25) and hit 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from 3-point range.
The Horned Frogs were led by their front court as Xavier Edmonds recorded his third-straight double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds and David Punch scored 16 points and dished out a game-high six assists.
TCU will return to action on Sunday at Colorado for a 1 p.m. CT start time on TNT.

- Punch finished with a team-high six assists. It was the second-most of his career and the second time leading the team.
- Punch made his sixth 3-pointer of the season in his only attempt of the game.
- Liutauras Lelevicius missed his first free throw of the season after making all 26 attempts prior to the game. It was the most free throws made in the nation without a miss.
- Lelevicius made a three for the third-straight game, going 2-of-4 from deep.
- Brock Harding recorded five assists. It was the 10th-straight game and 16th time this season he made at least five assists.
