Tennyson leads the Frogs with 23 points
FORT WORTH - No. 25 TCU tied a season-high with 11 3-pointers to pull away in an 85-78 win over No. 15 Texas Tech Tuesday in Schollmaier Arena.
All 11 of the 3-pointers came from three players. Micah Peavy was perfect from deep against his former team, making 4-of-4, a new career-high for makes from long range. He finished with 18 points and a team-high four assists.
The Big 12 leader in 3-point percentage, Trevian Tennyson was 4-of-8 and finished one off his season-high with 23 points. Jameer Nelson Jr. came off the bench and made each of his two attempts.
For the third-straight game, TCU (16-5, 5-3) found itself down double-digits and for the third-straight game, it came away with the victory. Texas Tech (16-4, 5-2) led by as many as 11, 27-16, with 7:26 to play after one of five 3-pointers by Pop Isaacs, who finished with a game-high 25 points. The Frogs then closed the half on a 24-9 run to lead 40-36 at the break.
TCU never trailed in the second half, continuing to get production from beyond-the-arc when it was needed. The only tie came at 45-45, just over two minutes into the second half, which was responded with a three by Tennyson.
What was once a 12-point TCU lead, was down to as little as three, 81-78, with 19 seconds left. JaKobe Coles came off the bench to sink four-straight free throws in the final 14 seconds to seal TCU's fourth win over an AP Top 15 team this season.
TCU will next host Texas on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will air on ESPN2 and include the jersey retirement of Kenrich Williams at halftime.
