
Ninth-Ranked TCU falls to No. 12 Ohio State 71-69

NEWARK, N.J. – No. 9 TCU missed out on a chance at a signature win on Monday, falling 71-69 to 12th-ranked Ohio State at the Prudential Center in the Coretta Scott King Classic.
The Horned Frogs gave the ball away 20 times and allowed 24 points in the final frame in a contest they led for more than 28 minutes.
Olivia Miles sunk two free throws and staked TCU (18-2, 6-1 Big 12) to a 66-65 edge at the 1:25 mark of the fourth quarter. Ohio State guard Chance Gray buried a 3-pointer from the left key with 16 seconds remaining following a pair of free throws by backcourt mate Jaloni Cambridge to deny the Frogs a chance at a second ranked win in 2025-26.
Miles, who grew up in nearby Phillipsburg, New Jersey, nearly recorded her fifth triple-double of the season. Playing in her home state for the first time as a collegian, Miles led all players with 24 points and 11 rebounds and finished with a team-high seven assists.
The 5-10 guard racked up nine points in the first quarter as TCU raced ahead to an 18-8 advantage.
Miles kept TCU in front by nine, 26-17, via a scoop-and-score fast beak layup.
Gray single-handedly kept the Buckeyes (17-2, 6-1 Big Ten) in the game early on. She scored 17 of her team-leading 22 points in the first half on the strength of a 5-6 clip from downtown.
TCU allowed four points in the final 10 seconds of the second period rendering its lead down to a single possession at 36-33.
The 3-pointer was all the Buckeyes had in the first half. The Horned Frogs held Ohio State to 31 percent shooting from the field but allowed the Buckeyes to connect on 6-13 attempts from distance.
TCU outrebounded the Buckeyes 28-15 in the first half and finished with a 43-33 edge on the glass for the game.
The turnovers and individual performances by Gray, Cambridge and Elsa Lemmil loomed large, though. The Buckeye trio combined for 56 points, with Cambridge and Lemmil tallying 17 points apiece.
TCU shot just 3-12 in the third quarter as Ohio State topped the scoreboard for the first time all afternoon, 45-44, with under a minute to play in the period.
Taylor Bigby banked in a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to lift TCU to a two-point lead entering the fourth.
Ohio State ripped off a 7-0 run to begin the quarter. TCU rallied to level the game at 54-54. The fourth featured four ties as the teams traded baskets to the tune of a 62-62 gridlock with 3:17 to go before the final sequence unfolded.
Bigby earned her second start of the season in place of Maddie Scherr, who was out with an injury. She responded with her best performance of the year.
The 6-1 senior guard finished with 14 points and four rebounds across a season-high 34 minutes. Bigby drilled 4-8 attempts from deep and finished 5-10 from the field.
Clara Silva netted 12 points and eight rebounds while Donovyn Hunter scored eight points.
Veronica Sheffey gave TCU nine points off the bench.
Five of the seven players who entered for TCU logged at least 25 minutes.
TCU's 20 turnovers were its second-most in a game all season and offset its 16 assists.
The Horned Frogs finished 11-12 at the foul line.
