TCU Draws Texas, Utah State in Dickies Arena Twin Bill

Horned Frogs face Longhorns on Dec. 6 in marquee matchup
FORT WORTH – TCU is returning to the premier indoor stage in the city of Fort Worth.
The Horned Frogs will compete at Dickies Arena twice this upcoming season during nonconference play in the Wild Horse Sports' Lone Star Series. The four-team event spans two weekends and also includes, Texas, Ohio State and Utah State.
TCU first faces Utah State on Sunday, Nov. 22, in the Women's Funkytown Showdown. The Horned Frogs and Aggies will meet in the opening game of a doubleheader event that is followed by a battle between Texas and Ohio State.
The series continues on Sunday, Dec. 6, when the Frogs make their second stroll down University Dr to challenge the Longhorns in the Battle for Texas.
"We're excited to be a part of the inaugural Wild Horse Sports Lone Star Series," said TCU head coach Mark Campbell. "Dickies Arena is an incredible venue and provides a tremendous setting for college basketball. Having the opportunity to play two games there gives us another great platform to showcase our program, compete against quality opponents and continue elevating women's basketball in Fort Worth. We know how passionate TCU fans are, and we're excited to give them two opportunities to come out and support our team. I have no doubt that our fans and the Fort Worth community will show up in full force and create a atmosphere for both matchups."
The Lone Star Series was incepted to elevate college women's basketball through preeminent in-state and national matchups in one of Texas' strongest markets.
"This is not simply about creating another neutral-site event," said Dennis Kazimir, Founder and President of Wild Horse Sports Management. "LS² is being built as a premium women's basketball platform, one that places the athletes and the game at the center of the experience while creating meaningful opportunities for fans, communities and partners."
The TCU-Texas tilt showcases an emerging rivalry between two of the country's elite teams. Since 2023, the programs have won more games than any other program in the Lone Star State. TCU has competed to an 87-22 (.798) overall record under Campbell. Texas is one of only four teams at the Power Four conference level with a greater win-loss percentage (.888) and more victories (103) than the Frogs over the last three years.
The neutral site affair marks the fourth meeting in as many years between the national powers. TCU and Texas last faced off in the quarterfinals of the 2025 NCAA Tournament, with the Longhorns claiming a 58-47 win. Together, the Horned Frogs and Longhorns are two of only five programs to notch back-to-back 30-win seasons and Elite Eight appearances entering the 2026-27 campaign.
"We're excited for the opportunity to compete against an incredible program like Texas," Campbell said. "It will be a great early-season test for our team and the type of challenge that helps prepare you for March. Playing on a neutral floor will give the game a postseason feel, and these types of marquee matchups are not always easy to put together.
"We're especially excited to bring a game of this magnitude to Fort Worth," Campbell continued. "It's a special opportunity for our fans and our community to see two great programs compete on a big stage. We expect an incredible atmosphere and look forward to playing in front of a sold-out crowd."
TCU and Utah State have never met on the hardwood. Utah State is entering its first season as a member of the revamped Pac-12 Conference.
The clash with the Aggies signifies TCU's second-ever visit to Dickies Arena. The Horned Frogs debuted at the venue on Dec. 8, 2024 vs. South Carolina.
Ahead of Campbell's fourth year at the helm, TCU enters the 2026-27 season as one of only two Power Conference teams to post consecutive 30-win campaigns, repeat as conference regular season champions and book back-to-back Elite Eight appearances. The Horned Frogs have competed to a 66-10 combined overall record over the last two seasons. TCU garnered the No. 6 year-end national ranking – tied for the best mark in program history – for the second straight season in 2025-26.
Presale tickets for the Women's Funkytown Showdown are available for purchase via Ticketmaster starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28 through 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3. General admission ticket sales for the doubleheader will go live on Sept. 4.
