Shahada Wells leads TCU with 15 points and seven rebounds
AMES, Iowa - No. 22 TCU dropped its fourth-straight game in a 70-59 loss at No. 19 Iowa State Wednesday in Hilton Coliseum.
The Horned Frogs (17-9, 6-7) were once again without Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year Mike MIles Jr. Shahada Wells scored a team-high 15 points and led the Frogs with seven rebounds. Damion Baugh had seven points and a game-high nine assists. Micah Peavy was 6-of-9 from the field for 13 points.
TCU struggled at the beginning of both halves, trailing 15-2 after the opening six minutes. After fighting back to make it a 35-24 deficit at halftime, TCU was outscored 12-2 in the opening three minutes of the second half.
Despite the slow starts and trailing by as many as 21 in the second half, the Frogs continued to force the Cyclones (17-8, 8-5) into turnovers, totaling 16 for the game. TCU trailed by just nine points, 66-57, with 2:09 to play. The Frogs turned the ball over in three of their last four possessions.
TCU shot 46.2 percent from the field, the highest in its last four road games. However, the Frogs shots a season-low 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from the free throw line. ISU took advantage at the line and made 15-of-17 for 88.2 percent.
After playing six of its last nine on the road, TCU will play three of its next four at home, starting with Oklahoma State on Saturday at 1 p.m. on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
