FROG FOCUS
The Horned Frogs will play their third of five regular season Big 12 duals this Saturday with conference championship implications in play. After defeating Baylor, 4-3, last weekend, the Frogs control their own destiny in the push for their fifth regular season Big 12 title in the last six seasons (excluding 2020).
The next TCU victory will be the 20th of the season and will mark the first time TCU has secured 20 regular season wins since the 2016 season, when Cameron Norrie helped lead the Frogs to 22. TCU has only achieved 20 regular season wins twice in the David Roditi era, 2016 (22) and 2015 (20). TCU has won 20+ duals 10 times in its history, with eight of those season coming from 1976-1989, when college tennis seasons consisted of 40+ matches as opposed to the 25-30 match schedules of this century.
TCU currently boasts a .864 winning percentage which ranks third-best in program history, behind 2016 (.867) and 1996 (.885), when head coach David Roditi and assistant coach Devin Bowen were both playing.
The Frogs are ranked No. 1 in the nation for the third time this season, after never before achieving the top spot. TCU is 8-2 vs. Top 15 opponents this season.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Texas enters the dual with a 13-8 record and a 1-1 mark in Big 12 play. The No. 11 Longhorns fell, 6-0, to Baylor last weekend, before dispatching of Texas Tech, 7-0, in Austin. This will be the second meeting of the season between the two schools, after TCU swept Texas, 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the ITA Team Indoor Championships in Seattle, back in February, as a part of TCU's National Championship run.
Texas leads the all-time series, 30-23, despite TCU winning each of the last two matchups, at Indoor Nationals this season, and in Austin, 4-3, last year. Luc Fomba clinched the victory on the road last season, in a match that proved critical in the Big 12 regular season title race, resulting in a three-way tie between TCU, Texas and Baylor.
TCU is 8-13 against Texas on the purple courts and 2-3 at home against the Longhorns in the Roditi era.
