FORT WORTH – TCU head coach Jamie Dixon announced the addition of Souleymane Doumbia, one of the nation's top-ranked junior college players, Wednesday.
Doumbia, whose name is pronounced Su-la-men Doom-bia, is from Africa's Ivory Coast and just finished his sophomore season at Navarro Junior College in Corsicana, Texas. The 6-foot-11 center averaged 10.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game during his freshman season. He scored over 20 points in three games, including a 32-point, 12-rebound performance against Lee College. He finished his career at Navarro with a program record 82 blocked shots.
"Souley is a quality person and really fits what we are looking for in a student-athlete," said Dixon. "He'll do great job of representing our program on and off the court."
Doumbia was at one point, ranked as the No. 1 JUCO center in the country according to 247Sports and is now ranked second. Doumbia, who moved to the United States when he was 16 years old, is ranked No. 4 overall in the JUCO rankings and Rivals rates him as a four-star prospect.
"We're very fortunate to have a player of Souley's ability," said Dixon. "He has a great deal of energy and a high motor. Souley is a prototypical big for today's game with his versatility and the way he can run the floor. He'll be an impactful player from day one."
