
Bane Named AP All-Big 12, USBWA All-District VII

Two more awards for the senior guard
FORT WORTH – TCU senior guard Desmond Bane earned a two more awards on Tuesday when he was named USBWA All-District VII and First Team All-Big 12 by the Associated Press.
The honor comes two days after Bane was named First Team All-Big 12 by the Big 12 coaches. Similar to Sunday, Bane also became the first TCU player to earn first team honors by the AP. He was named to the second team as a junior last season. Bane is the first TCU player since Kenrich Williams in 2018 to be named USBWA All-District VII.
The Richmond, Ind., native ranked second in the conference with a scoring average of 16.6 points per game. He ranked sixth in assists (3.9) and 10th in rebounding (6.3) to become the only player that ranked in the top 10 in the Big 12 in points, rebounds and assists.
Bane was the league's best 3-point shooter with an accuracy of 44.1 percent and 2.9 made 3-pointers per game, both tops in the Big 12. He scored 20 or more points 12 times, the most in the conference, and was one of eight Big 12 players to score 30 or more points in a game this season.
Bane, who was the Big 12 Player of the Week on March 2, ranks third all-time at TCU with 1,768 points, fourth with 652 field goals and first with 247 3-pointers made.
Bane was joined on the Big 12 first team by Jared Butler (Baylor), Kristian Doolittle (Oklahoma), Devon Dotson (Kansas) and player of the year Udoka Azubuike (Kansas).
Others on the all-district team are player of the year Jared Butler (Baylor), Javion Hamlet (North Texas), Jhivvan Jackson (UTSA), Isaiah Joe (Arkansas), Mason Jones (Arkansas), Sha'markus Kennedy (McNeese), Skylar Mays (LSU), Markquis Nowell (Little Rock), Nijal Pearson (Texas State). Baylor's Scott Drew was named coach of the year.
The Horned Frogs are the No. 7 seed the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship and will play No. 10 seed Kansas State on Wednesday at 8 p.m. on ESPNU.
