Frogs get help from bench in big win over Indiana State
HONOLULU – A total team effort paced the TCU men's basketball team to an 83-69 victory over Indiana State to win the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic on Christmas Day.
Senior guard Alex Robinson was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 10th annual DNC after scoring a team-high 15 points and recording eight points and four assists against the Sycamores. His four assists gave him 26 for the three-game event, which broke the previous record of 23.
Junior guard Jaylen Fisher also earned a spot on the all-tournament team and scored 11 points Tuesday.
The Horned Frogs (11-1) rarely trailed and did so only by one point on two occasions, none after the 12:11 mark in the first half. TCU shot 57.1 percent from the field in the first half and 51.7 percent for the game. The Frogs led 40-30 at halftime.
TCU led by just eight with 14:22 to play in the game before it went on an 18-4 run, capped by a Kaden Archie dunk, to reach its largest lead of the game, 71-49 with 9:38 to play.
Senior forward JD Miller finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds, his first double-double of the season.
As was the case when the two teams met 11 days ago, the Frogs held the nation's best three-point shooting team well below their average. Indiana State came in shooting 45.5 percent from three and was just 5-of-13 for 38.5 percent from beyond-the-arc.
