POSTGAME QUOTES
TCU 84, SMU 64
Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum)
Nov. 16, 2010
Attendance: 3,937
TCU HEAD COACH Jim Christian
On the game:
"I'm surprised at how high scoring the game was tonight. SMU likes to play with a lot of ball control, so it was important for us to dictate the tempo early. Luckily, we got some open shots to fall early and we were able to push the ball at them. If we can get up in transition, that's usually when we are at our best."
On the difference in this team with junior guard Hank Thorns on the court:
"I think our team runs a lot smoother and it takes pressure off of some of our other guys when Hank is in there. He has a real understanding for what it is we are trying to do and when to get guys the ball. He's averaging 10 assists per game."
On what TCU did better tonight:
"The one thing that bothered me coming out of the opening game was that we only had three offensive rebounds and we missed 25 shots. Tonight, we had eight offensive rebounds, so we are getting better. If our guards can keeping getting rebounds, that's good, because that means we can get out on a break."
TCU JUNIOR GUARD Hank Thorns
On the offensive strategy of the Frogs:
"We are stressing to be unselfish. It doesn't matter who is taking the shots, we just want to play defense. We know that me and [Ronnie Moss] are probably the two best in the country in transition and we know that if we get in the open lane, we can get everybody the ball and everyone will be happy."
On how he measures his play:
"The only number I look at after the game is my turnovers. I hold myself to a high standard and I shouldn't have more than two turnovers a game. Before I came here, I really turned the ball over, but with the more minutes I play, they more I can pass and get the ball to my teammates. I'm getting better at it. I'm talking with my coaches and watching film, trying to work on my mistakes."
TCU JUNIOR GUARD SAMMY YEAGUER
On getting comfortable with new teammates:
"Usually, it takes a couple of years to really know where your teammates are going to be on the court and to get that bond and togetherness of a team. We are just feeding off each other and I feel like it is getting better each game out there."
