POSTGAME QUOTES
TCU 109, Houston Baptist 30
Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum)
Nov. 15, 2009
Attendance: 2,104
TCU head coach Jeff Mittie
Opening statement
"It's good to get things going and get the season tipped off. I think we got off to a good. In games like these, you tend to get sloppy and it can only take a couple of people to turn it into a real sloppy game. "
On what his team needs to work on
"We still missed a lot of easy shots. We have a lot to clean up. We had a lot of opportunities to score in the paint where we need to finish stronger and get more physical.
"I thought we did some good things. I think we can play better—I know we can play better. I know we can finish better inside, because I have seen it. That's what we are trying to do to play harder to our potential."
On junior guard Helena Sverrisdottir
"We felt she was giving up the ball too early in the early part of the game, and we wanted her to have it a little bit longer. She does such a good job on making decisions. The other thing is she is much faster than a year ago and has worked really hard on pushing the basketball. Her habits sometimes creep back in and she gives up the ball earlier than I would like. She made some great decisions late driving to the rim and kicking out to TK (LaFleur) for a three. We thought she mixed it up very well. She is the quarterback of our team. She causes the defense many problems being able to move around the court."
Junior guard Helena Sverrisdottir
On opening the season
"We have been waiting for this for a while now and were really excited to come out there and play well. We feel like we have a really strong group of players that can play. We were having fun out there. "
On her team's up-tempo pace
"We thought early we could run on this team. The steals and turnovers opened up the floor. I was just trying to get the ball quickly and push it up the floor to get layups and open threes."
