Horned Frogs clinch share of regular season title and No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament
CINCINNATI, Ohio – TCU has been building toward a conference title since summer workouts began in June, and on Wednesday, that season-long ambition became reality.
The 11th-ranked Horned Frogs clinched a share of their second consecutive Big 12 regular season championship with an 83-70 win over Cincinnati at Fifth Third Arena.
TCU (26-4, 14-3 Big 12) can repeat as the undisputed league champions with a victory vs. No. 18 Baylor in its regular season home finale on Sunday. The Frogs hold a one-game lead over the Bears and No. 17 West Virginia in the conference standings. By virtue of beating Baylor on Feb. 12 in Waco and sweeping the season series with the Mountaineers, TCU clinched the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament with Wednesday's triumph.
The Horned Frogs blitzed the Bearcats (11-18, 6-11 Big 12) with 60 second half points and led by as many as 20 in the fourth quarter. TCU trailed 29-23 at halftime but scored 13 unanswered points out of the locker room to take control of the game. The Frogs shot 60 percent from the field (21-35) and drilled nine 3-pointers across the contest's final 20 minutes.
Marta Suarez, Donovyn Hunter and Olivia Miles combined to score 63 points.
Suarez paired a career-high 32 points – 26 of which came in the second half – with nine rebounds and four steals.
Hunter tallied 16 points while Miles narrowly missed out on her sixth triple-double of the season, finishing with 15 points, a game-high eight assists and seven rebounds.
The x-factor was the continued emergence of Kennedy Basham. The 6-7 center led all players with 10 rebounds and four blocks and padded her stat line with nine points across 24 minutes off the bench.
TCU hung 35 points on Cincinnati in the third frame, their most ever in any quarter in any game under head coach Mark Campbell. Suarez scored seven straight points to begin the second half and gave the Horned Frogs the lead for good. TCU buried six 3-pointers in the period, the last of which came from Miles and widened the Frogs' advantage to 56-41 with 40 seconds remaining.
Cincinnati used a 7-0 run to crawl within 11 points of TCU down 64-53 at the six-minute mark in the fourth. Miles knifed through the Bearcats full court press and found a wide open Taylor Bigby for a 3-pointer from the right key before Basham converted an and-one on TCU's ensuing pair of possessions. Suarez netted the Frogs last nine points.
The Horned Frogs endured three scoring droughts in excess of three minutes in the first half and shot just 29 percent (9-31). The Frogs were unable to put points on the board over the final 3:42.
TCU held the Bearcats to 36 percent shooting in the second half and for the game. Mya Perry led Cincinnati with 27 points.

Wednesday's result means TCU will face Baylor (24-6, 13-4 Big 12) in its regular season finale with an undisputed league title up for grabs for the second straight season. The Horned Frogs defeated the Bears 51-48 on March 2, 2024 in Waco to win the university's first Big 12 basketball championship. TCU walloped the Bears 83-67 at Foster Pavilion in the teams' first meeting this season, meaning all Baylor can hope for is a co-championship with the Horned Frogs and West Virginia. After losing 37 consecutive games to Baylor, TCU has won four straight vs. its longstanding rival.
