Averaged 12.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for Cal last season
FORT WORTH – TCU further bolstered its frontcourt with the addition of one of the sport's most coveted post players in the transfer portal.
The Horned Frogs announced the signing of Cal forward Marta Suarez to the program's 2025-26 roster on Tuesday.
Suarez started every game for the Golden Bears across a two-year stay in Berkeley from 2023-25. This past season, the 6-3 Suarez averaged 12.9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game on a Cal squad that finished with a 25-9 overall record and reached the NCAA Tournament. Suarez spent the previous three seasons at Tennessee, where she was an All-SEC freshman team selection in 2021.
From Oviedo, Spain, Suarez was graded a four-star Blue Star Europe prospect prior to venturing across the pond. Suarez spent the 2019-20 campaign with Segle XXI Barcelona in Spain's LF2 League. That year, she averaged a team-leading 12.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while connecting at a 46 percent clip from the field.
Suarez was among the most consistent forwards in the ACC in 2024-25. She scored in double figures in all-but-four games, tallying 13.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in league play. Suarez was one of only five players to finish in the top 25 in the ACC statistical rankings in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage (.452) vs. conference foes.
A developing stretch forward, Suarez also knocked down 40 threes – the fourth most among all ACC forwards – behind a career-best 32 percent mark from behind the arc. Suarez concluded her senior season as one of only 14 D1 forwards to shoot at least 46 percent from the field and 32 percent from distance.
As a junior, Suarez led Cal in total rebounds (233) and rebounds per game (6.9) while ranking second on the squad in scoring average (11.9 ppg). Her 233 boards were the ninth-most in the Pac-12. Suarez tallied a team-high seven double-doubles, good for 10th among her conference peers, and scored in double figures in 22 games, highlighted by a trio of 20-point performances.
Suarez was forced to sit out the entirety of the 2021-22 campaign due to an injury she sustained midway through her freshman year. Despite the injury, Suarez still managed to earn all-conference accolades in her first collegiate season. She appeared in 22 games and earned the starting nod in the first 14 for the Lady Vols. Suarez averaged 4.1 points and 3.6 rebounds across 16 minutes per game while shooting 41 percent from the field and 75 percent at the free throw line.
She has been a mainstay in international competition for her native Spain. Notably, Suarez repped the red and yellow at the 2018 FIBA U16 Women's European Championship, helping Tema Spain place third. Suarez averaged 17 minutes per night over seven games, posting a cumulative stat line of 7.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.4 assist per game.
Suarez prepped at Joachim Blume Institute.
She is the fourth transfer player to sign with TCU this offseason, joining frontcourt mate Clara Silva and guards Olivia Miles and Taliyah Parker. The Horned Frogs have now added seven newcomers to their roster. TCU added centers Emily Hunter and Sarah Portlock and versatile wing Clara Bielefeld during the early signing period.
New season ticket deposits are ongoing and can be completed online by the TCU Tickets page on GoFrogs.com or by calling the TCU Athletics Ticket Office at (817) 257-3764.
