
Miles Posts Triple-Double as No. 8 TCU Overwhelms UTEP

FORT WORTH – Olivia Miles recorded the seventh triple-double of her career and No. 8 TCU stomped UTEP 95-40 on Saturday at Schollmaier Arena.
Miles finished with 15 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in the Horned Frogs' wire-to-wire beatdown of the previously unbeaten Miners.
It was the fourth triple-double in TCU women's basketball history and first in 14 years. Miles became the first Horned Frog to post a triple-double since TCU Athletics Hall of Famer Helena Sverrisdottir finished with 16 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds on March 17, 2011 vs. Oral Roberts.
Miles' seven career triple-doubles are tied with Suzie McConnell (Penn State) and Suzie McConnell (Saint Mary's) for the fifth-most in NCAA history.
She racked up eight points, five rebounds and five assists in the first half as TCU took a 43-18 edge into the locker room.
Miles officially was on triple-double watch by the end of the third quarter. She had 15 points, eight assists and seven boards entering the final frame.
The New Jersey native capped off a 19-0 run bridging the third and fourth quarters with her 10th dime that stretched TCU's lead to 79-31. Miles snagged an offensive rebound with 4:20 to go to secure the triple-double.
TCU, now 10-0 for the second time in three years under head coach Mark Campbell, played its most complete game of the season.
Offensively, the Horned Frogs dished out a season-high 27 assists while shooting 33-64 (52 percent) from the field and knocking down 14-30 attempts from deep. TCU's 82 percent assist rate was its highest of the season.
Miles was one of four players to score in double figures for the Frogs.
Maddie Scherr paired a game-high 21 points with five assists and four rebounds. She drilled 5-6 looks from behind the arc.
Marta Suarez tallied 16 points for the second straight game while Taylor Bigby added 12 points of her own, including 10 in the first half.
At the other end of the court, the ballgame pitted two of the nation's top rebounding outfits opposite one another. TCU leads the Big 12 in rebounding average (44.7 rpg) while UTEP entered the matinee ranked sixth nationally at 47.2 rebounds per game.
TCU won the battle on the boards 46-39 and transformed its advantage on the glass into 36 points in the paint.
The Horned Frogs forced 22 turnovers and routinely discombobulated the Miners' offense via timely half-court traps and alternating between a 2-3 zone and man-to-man.
TCU held UTEP to 24 percent shooting (16-66) and a 1-17 mark from behind the arc. The Miners finished with just six assists.
The Horned Frogs led from start-to-finish for the eighth time. UTEP stayed within a possession of TCU, 12-9, with 2:00 remaining in the opening frame. A 9-0 run sparked by back-to-back 3-pointers by Bigby and Scherr staked TCU to a double-digit lead it never relinquished. Bigby converted an and-one on TCU's penultimate possession of the quarter to punctuate the spurt.
TCU closed the first half with another 9-0 run to permanently separate from UTEP.
The Frogs assisted on 13 of their 15 makes from the field and ere 8-16 from distance entering the locker room. Bigby and Scherr each scored 10 first half points.
TCU scored 26 points in the third and fourth quarters.
The Horned Frogs finished with a 38 fast break points, their second-most in a game this season.
UTEP (7-1) was led by 10 points apiece from Sirviva Legions and Ndack Mbengue.
