Miles, Hunter each score 20-plus
FORT WORTH – Olivia Miles and Donovyn Hunter each scored 20-plus as No. 17 TCU coasted to an 88-46 win over Sam Houston on Sunday at Schollmaier Arena.
Miles led all players with 22 points, nine assists and four steals.
Hunter went 7-11 from the field and 5-8 from behind the arc on her way to a career-high 20 points. The junior was one of four Horned Frogs who shot 50 percent or better and had at least three made buckets.
The Frogs converted 58 percent of their field goal attempts (35-60) and drilled 10 three-pointers. Eight TCU players finished with at least five points.
Miles and Hunter accounted for 15 of TCU's 25 assists – tied for the fifth most in a game under head coach Mark Campbell.
TCU extended its home winning streak to 26 games and won its 24th consecutive nonconference game at home with the result.
The Horned Frogs' offensive attacking prowess and length proved to be too much for the Bearkats (1-1) to handle.
TCU blew the game open with a 14-0 run over the first 4:43 of the contest. From there, the Horned Frogs never led by fewer than double digits and maintained a 20-plus point advantage for all but 40 seconds of the second half. TCU took a 44-24 edge into the locker room and outscored Sam Houston 24-9 in the fourth quarter to inflate the final margin of victory.
The only negative on the final box score for TCU were the giveaways. The Horned Frogs finished with 20 turnovers, including nine in the first quarter, that led to 14 points for the Bearkats.
Clara Silva peppered six of her nine points across TCU's prolonged scoring run to open the ballgame. The 6-7 center came one point and one rebound shy of recording her first career double-double, as she padded her stat line with a game-high nine rebounds and two blocks.
Maddie Scherr and Kennedy Basham added eight points apiece.
Scherr, who was sidelined for the entire 2024-25 season with a back injury, sunk a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter for her first points as a Horned Frog.
TCU further separated from Sam Houston with a 10-0 run midway through the third quarter that stretched its lead to 60-31. The sparkplug this time around was Marta Suarez, who scored her 1,000th career point off a second chance layup that ignited the run.
The Horned Frogs continued to pour it on late even as their starters rested for the bulk of the period. Eleven players checked in for TCU during the final frame. The Frogs went 10-14 (71 percent) from the field.
TCU racked up 50 points in the paint and outrebounded the Bearkats 47-30.
Sam Houston was led by 13 points from Fanta Kone.
