No. 17 Horned Frogs blast Tennessee State 122-39
FORT WORTH – On Wednesday, everything went right for No. 17 TCU, who hammered Tennessee State 122-39 at Schollmaier Arena.
The 83-point margin of victory was the largest in TCU men's and women's basketball history. The Horned Frogs' 122 points scored were their second-most in a game vs. a Division I opponent in the program's 49 years of existence. TCU's final points tally was also the third-highest in a 'D1 vs. D1' game thus far in the 2025-26 season.
The Horned Frogs also tied the record for the longest home winning streak in TCU basketball history at 27 games. TCU (3-0) will go for the record when it returns home to face Tarleton State on Nov. 20 following Sunday's marquee matchup at No. 10 NC State.
Five Frogs scored in double figures for the second time in three games.
Maddie Scherr led the way with 22 points on the strength of a 6-6 clip from downtown. Scherr, playing just her third game after missing the entire 2024-25 season due to injury, tallied 16 of her points in the first half. She became one of only three TCU players to ever shoot 100 percent from behind the arc and finish with a half-dozen 3-pointers.
Olivia Miles turned in her first double-double in a TCU uniform, pairing 17 points with 11 assists – three shy of her career high – and five steals.
Marta Suarez netted 19 points while Donovyn Hunter contributed 17. Taylor Bigby rounded out the quintet of double-digit scorers with 10 points across 21 minutes off the bench.
Clara Silva led all players in rebounds (nine) and blocks (four).
TCU again buried its opponent with a swift and decisive run just minutes into the game. The Horned Frogs scored 17 unanswered points over the first 4:10 of the contest. TCU started the game 6-6 from the field and was sparked in the early going by a pair of 3-pointers from Scherr.
Suarez racked up 11 first quarter points to stake TCU to a 31-15 advantage. TCU shot 66 percent (12-18) in the opening frame.
A 20-2 run spanning nearly five minutes in the second frame swelled the lead to 51-20 before TCU stretched the advantage to 59-24 at the intermission. The Horned Frogs set a Big 12 era program record for first half field goal percentage (.731, 19-26) as Suarez, Miles and Hunter all entered the locker room already double figures.
TCU outscored Tennessee State (0-3) 36-4 in the third quarter behind a 17-0 run to open the second half as the lead grew to 95-28 entering the final period.
Natalie Mazurek drilled a trio of triples over the final six minutes of the ballgame as TCU tacked on 27 more points to its final tally even while substituting out its starters.
The Horned Frogs drilled 17-27 threes – their most in a game in the Mark Campbell era – and finished with a greater 3-point percentage (.630) than they did field goal percentage (.588).
TCU also produced a 2-1 assist-to-turnover ratio, dishing out 25 dimes against 12 giveaways.
The Frogs transformed 32 Tennessee State turnovers into 46 points and knocked down 25-34 attempts at the foul line.
