
Campbell Earns 100th Career Head Coaching Victory

No. 10 TCU blows by UTRGV 93-57
FORT WORTH – TCU women's basketball head coach Mark Campbell picked up his 100th career victory and the 10th-ranked Horned Frogs rolled past UTRGV 93-57 on Sunday at Schollmaier Arena.
Campbell needed only 140 games to reach triple figures. Of his 100 career victories, 61 have been on the TCU sidelines. He is the third-fastest active Big 12 head coach to win 100 games at the Division I level.
TCU (6-0) quickly ensured the commencement of postgame celebrations for Campbell. On an afternoon in which TCU hosted the Maggie Dixon Classic, the Horned Frogs scored 18 unanswered points over the first 5:30 of the contest. TCU used a pair of double-digit scoring runs in the second half to push the lead north of 30 points.
The Frogs drilled 15-33 attempts from deep – their second-most in a game this season – and netted 24 assists against turnovers. TCU had UTRGV (3-3) doubled up on the glass by halftime and finished with a season-best 51 rebounds.
Marta Suarez posted her second double-double in as many outings, as the 6-3 forward finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Olivia Miles gave TCU two 20-point scorers and threatened her first triple-double in a Horned Frogs jersey. She tallied 22 points and eight boards and led all players with seven assists.
Taylor Bigby (12 points) and Donovyn Hunter (11 points) made it four Frogs in double figures. Both players scored 10-plus for the fourth consecutive time inside Schollmaier Arena.
Clara Silva led all players with 11 rebounds while Maddie Scherr contributed six points and six assists.
Five of Scherr's assists occurred during TCU's first quarter offensive blitz.
Suarez drained back-to-back 3-pointers to ignite TCU's 18-0 run to open the ballgame. She knocked down a third triple late in the period that kept TCU comfortably in front at 25-11.
TCU started the game 5-7 from distance
Leading 30-13, UTRGV whittled TCU's lead down to just seven points at 37-30 with 5:15 remaining in the first half. The Vaqueros knocked down six 3-pointers and bridged an 11-22 shooting spell between the first and second quarters after starting off 0-7 the field.
Miles scored nine points over the final 4:00 of the half and gave TCU a 46-33 edge entering the locker room.
The Horned Frogs outscored the Vaqueros 47-24 in the second half. UTRGV mustered just seven field goals and one 3-pointer vs. TCU's defense.
UTRGV stayed within single digits as late as the 5:13 mark of the fourth quarter. Leading 56-45, TCU ripped off a 14-0 run over the ensuing three minutes that put the game to bed. Suarez scored seven straight during the surge while Bigby bookended the run with a 3-pointer and layup.
Bigby scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half.
Three straight 3-pointers from Hunter, Suarez and Bigby stretched TCU's advantage to 35 points at the final media timeout. TCU led by as many as 38 late in the frame.
UTRGV was led by 17 points from Chazlyn Dettor. She was one of three Vaqueros to score in double figures.
