Tabitha Nago and Tate Underwood claim individual titles
ARLINGTON, Texas – For the second weekend in a row, TCU cross country swept both the men's and women's 5K team and individual titles at the UTA Gerald Richey Invitational Saturday morning.
Overall, the TCU women cruised to victory with 30 points, 27 less than the next closest team. Five runners inside the top 10 helped solidify the Frogs' second team title in two races this season. The men followed up their dominant week one performance with another impressive outing. Six runners in the top 10 was all the Frogs needed to edge out the next closest team, the meet hosts, 26-44.
There was a sense of déjà vu for Ngao, who started off her 2024 campaign nearly identical to her freshman season a year ago. The Nairobi, Kenya, native finished first in back-to-back 5Ks at the Gerald Richey Invitational and the John McKenzie Invitational for the second year in a row, giving her four career race wins. Ngao shaved just over 15 seconds off her time, posting a season-best 17:32.4. She was joined atop the podium by sophomore Tate Underwood on the men's side, who won his first collegiate race with a career-best 14:53.2 5K.
Also adding to the women's score was Mckenzie Bailey. The sophomore placed fourth overall with a PR of 17:47.2. She was followed by Olivia Andrews, who earned her first career top 10 finish with a time of 18:29.4. Joining the Frogs on the cross country course was junior Maria Coral from the triathlon team. She added an eighth-place finish, and freshman Ava Santora rounded out the points with a PR of 18:33.1, good for 10th overall.
For the men, senior Noah Winters crossed the finish line second with a career-best 14:55.7 5K. Fellow senior Stone Burke followed in sixth, and freshman Brayden Schick dropped a 15:13.0 (eighth) in his first collegiate top 10 finish. CJ Meyer capped the scoring with a strong ninth-place finish (15:16.4).
