Frogs Travel to College Station for first road test of the season
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – After opening the season with back-to-back team titles on the men's and women's sides, TCU cross country looks to continue one of the best starts in program history at the Texas A&M Invitational on Friday, Sept. 13 at 8 a.m. CT.
In two weekends of racing, the Horned Frogs have swept the team and individual titles at the John McKenzie Invitational and the UTA Gerald Richey Invitational and earned national recognition this past week from the Big 12 Conference as sophomores Tabitha Ngao and Tate Underwood were named cross country Runners of the Week. For the TCU, it marked a small piece of history as Underwood was the first men's runner in TCU history to be named Big 12 Runner of the Week.
Going into the race at the Watts Cross Country Course, the Distance Frogs will be tested in their first 8k of the season on the men's side, while the women will run the 5k distance. The field includes Baylor, Houston, Louisiana, North Texas, Sam Houston, Tarleton State, TCU, Tulane, UT-Arlington and the host Texas A&M, among others.
Last season, both the men and women placed fourth overall at the Texas A&M Invitational with 131 and 104 points, respectively. Graydon Morris led the men with a time of 24:16.1, good for fourth overall in the field of 134 runners.
So far in 2024, TCU has looked strong on the course. Ranked No. 7 on the women's side and No. 13 on the men's side in the South-Central Region, the Frogs have set a new standard. Through each of the first two races this season, Ngao has led the Frogs, crossing the finish line first overall. The TCU women have had 10 individuals finish inside the top 10. For the men, Morris and Underwood have individual race wins, helping the men place 12 individuals inside the top 10.
