
Johnson Lagat Closes Out Season at NCAA Cross Country Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. – TCU Cross Country's Johnson Lagat represented the Distance Frogs at the 2025 NCAA National Championship Meet, finishing 117th overall in the field of over 250 student-athletes.
Lagat raced and became the first TCU individual to compete at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships since Gracie Morris (2023) and first male since Festus Kigen (2010).
Starting the race in box five alongside the Arkansas and Oregon men, he was the 194th runner at the 1k mark. Still packed in tightly, Lagat dropped towards the back over the next kilometer before settling into the race. From the 222nd position, the Kapsabet, Kenya, native made up ground at each split, moving into 173rd place at the 5k and 141st at the 8k. Down the homestretch, he passed 18 more runners to cross the finish line with a time of 29:44.4.
It wraps a successful 2025 cross country season for TCU under first year coach Michael Porter.
