FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For the first time since 2010, TCU men's cross country will be represented at the NCAA Championship Meet as junior Johnson Lagat punched his ticket in the 10k with a seventh-place finish at the South Central Regionals on Friday morning.
Lagat ran a career-best time of 29:33.5 to cross the finish line and earn an auto-bid as an individual for the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Missouri, on November 22. Pacing himself, he gradually moved up throughout the race, moving from 29th at the 1.6k split to 11th at the 5.4k marker and eventually up into the top 10 to finish seventh overall and earn All-Region Honors.
As a team, the TCU men earned a seventh place finish that featured four Frogs in the top 50 runners. Lagat was followed by teammate Mohammed Kowa who secured a 29th place result in 31:05.1. CJ Meyer and Brayden Schick earned 46th and 48th place finishes, respectively, in just under 32 minutes. Finally, Grant Martinez rounded out the top five runners in 71st with a 32.14.8 10k.
In the women's 6k, the Frogs finished 11th out of 31 teams. Leading the way was senior Gabby Martin, who turned in a 21:56.1 time – good for 49th overall. Anastacia Gonzales followed closely in 54th with a time of 22:02.5, and Kate Selover (71st, 22:22.6), Mckenzie Bailey (85th, 22:39.2) and Camryn Kirkland (94th, 22:48.2) all recorded top 100 results.
With the 2025 season wrapped for team competition, Lagat has more racing ahead of him. He will be the first TCU individual to compete since Gracie Morris (2023) and first male since Festus Kigen (2010).
