COLUMBIA, Mo. – For the first time in 15 years, TCU men's cross country will be represented at the NCAA National Championship meet. Junior Johnson Lagat is set to race on the big stage in the 10k on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 10:10 a.m. CT at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course.
Lagat ran a career-best time of 29:33.5 to cross the finish line and earn an at-large bid as an individual at last weekend's competition. Pacing himself, he gradually moved up throughout the race, moving from 29th at the 1.6k split to 11th at the 5.4k marker and eventually up into the top 10 to finish seventh overall and earn All-Region Honors.
On Saturday, he will be the first TCU individual to compete at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships since Gracie Morris (2023) and first male since Festus Kigen (2010) when he lines up in start box five alongside the Arkansas and Oregon men.
It's been a season to remember for Lagat. The Kapsabet, Kenya, native kicked off his 2025 campaign with a first-place finish in the 5k at the John McKenzie Invitational (14:59.2) and followed it up with a second-place result at the Texas A&M Invitational (23:32.1 in the 8k). He secured his third top-10 run of the year at the Arturo Barrios Invitational, coming in ninth with a career-best 8k (23:18.2).
At the Big 12 Championships, he crossed the finish line in 37th against a stacked field of runners, and last weekend Lagat punched his ticket to the Natty with a sub-30 10k and a seventh-place finish at the NCAA South Central Regional.
