Morris and Ngao lead Horned Frogs in season opener
FORT WORTH – TCU cross country opened the 2024 season, sweeping both the men's and women's 5k at the John McKenzie Invitational. Senior Graydon Morris and sophomore Tabitha Ngao led the way for the Horned Frogs, winning their races.
After crossing the finish line first at the John McKenzie Invitational last season, Ngao defended her title, running a 17:47.9. For Morris, it marked his first collegiate individual race victory. He took full advantage of the opportunity, dropping a career-best 14:48.3.
The women ran their way to victory with five individuals finishing inside the top 10 for a combined 24 points. In her collegiate debut, sophomore Mckenzie Bailey placed second overall with a 17:58.3. Portland State transfer Peyten Woodruff snagged a top-five finish in her TCU debut, followed by true freshman Ava Santora in sixth. Returner Jordan White rounded out the scoring for the Frogs with a 19:02.4 PR. Overall, three Frogs turned in career-best 5k times.
On the men's side, it was about as perfect as you could draw it up. The top five individuals in the race were all Horned Frogs, giving TCU an easy 15-point sweep. Newcomer Johnson Lagat didn't disappoint in his debut on the cross country course, finishing second overall. Seniors Stone Burke and Noah Winters followed in third and fourth, respectively, and sophomore CJ Meyer rounded out the top five and the scoring with a new PR. He was one of seven TCU men to do so.
