Horned Frogs rout Bulldogs behind 34-2 first half scoring run
FORT WORTH – Refocused and recharged following a week off, TCU rolled on Sunday in Schollmaier Arena.
The 12th-ranked Horned Frogs parlayed a 34-2 run spanning the first and second quarters into a 92-41 rout of Louisiana Tech.
TCU shot a blistering 66 percent (19-29) from the field over the opening 20 minutes – it's best field goal percentage in a half under head coach Mark Campbell – and tallied 25 assists. The Frogs benefited from a season-high 40 bench points and 46-22 advantage on the boards.
The win was TCU's third victory of at least 50 points in 2024-25 and boosted the Horned Frogs' record to 10-1. TCU held the Bulldogs, who fell to 5-4, to a season-low 41 points.
Hailey Van Lith led the Horned Frogs in scoring for the seventh straight game on a day TCU hosted the 18th annual Maggie Dixon Classic. Van Lith netted 23 points – her sixth 20-point performance in a TCU uniform – on an efficient 7-10 mark from the field. She was a perfect 6-6 at the foul line.
Madison Conner buried four 3-pointers on her way to 18 points. She played a team-high 28 minutes off the bench.
Conner canned two of her triples in the first quarter. Buoyed by the 5-11 sharpshooter, TCU scored 16 straight points to close the frame and assume a 19-5 lead. Conner's second 3-pointer gave TCU a double digit lead it never relinquished with 2:33 remaining. It also lifted her into the 1,000-point club. She is the third active player on TCU's roster alongside Van Lith and Sedona Prince (12 points, seven rebounds) to achieve the milestone. Of Conner's 1,014 career points, 667 have come over the course of her 38 games played in purple and white.
TCU held LA Tech scoreless over the final 7:48 of the opening period. That drought extended for another minute into the second quarter before the Bulldogs halted what morphed into a 19-0 run punctuated by a 3-pointer from Taylor Bigby.
Prince and Van Lith then single-handedly scored 15 unanswered points to cap TCU's 32-point scoring run and stake the Frogs to a 37-7 lead with 5:45 to go before the intermission.
Van Lith and Prince each entered the locker room with a dozen points. Prince scored in double figures for the 31st time in 32 starts as a Frog despite resting for the majority of the second half.
TCU assisted on 15 of its 19 first half field goals on its way to a 46-16 halftime lead. LA Tech's 16 points scored were the fewest allowed by a Campbell-led TCU team and marked the seventh time this season TCU has held a team to less than 20 points in a half.
Consecutive deep balls by Conner commenced the second half. Conner finished 4-10 from distance, signifying the 20thtime in her career and 17th as a Frog she has drained at least four attempts from distance. Conner shot 7-13 from the field.
Van Lith matched conner with a half-dozen points in the third quarter, helping nudge TCU further ahead, 66-24, entering the final period.
Agnes Emma-Nnopu pulled down five offensive rebounds in the fourth quarter, helping TCU amass 26 points in the frame.
Emma-Nnopu, who earned her second start of the season, led all players in rebounds (10), steals (five) and assists (five). She paired the hustle stats with seven points.
Backcourt mates Taylor Bigby and Donovyn Hunter pitched in eight points apiece.
TCU finished 12-31 from distance, its NCAA-leading sixth game with at least a dozen 3-pointers.
LA Tech became the third opponent TCU has kept below a 30 percent from the field, as the Bulldogs shot 28 percent (14-50).
The Frogs finished with 11 steals, their third-most in a game this season.
