Owens, Prince and Roberson post double-doubles in 96-56 win over Omaha
FORT WORTH – No. 25 TCU earned a program record 12th consecutive win on Wednesday, overpowering Omaha 96-56 inside Schollmaier Arena.
Four players scored in double figures – three of whom finished with double-doubles – in a game TCU led by 29 points at halftime and as many as 44 late in the fourth quarter. The Horned Frogs (12-0) pulled down 59 rebounds, their most in a game in 20 seasons and largest total in TCU's Big 12 era.
Sedona Prince led TCU's double-double trio in scoring and rebounding. The 6-7 center notched her seventh double-double of the season, tallying 26 points and 17 rebounds in just 27 minutes. Prince nearly had her double-double sewn up by the end of the first quarter. She snared nine rebounds to pair with eight points over the opening 10 minutes.
Aaliyah Roberson gave the Horned Frogs 14 points and 12 rebounds off the bench en route to her second double-double in her last three outings.
Rounding out the trifecta was Jaden Owens, who paced TCU's offensive onslaught via a 14-point, 10-assist effort. Owens' double-double was the second of her career and first as a Horned Frog. She has dished out 10-or-more assists in four of her last five games and leads all D1 players in total assists in December with 50.
Madison Conner finished with 19 points, signifying her dozenth consecutive game in double digits. She scored 16 of her points in the first half.
TCU was never challenged in its first game as a ranked team in three seasons. The Horned Frogs began the game on a 15-0 run that spanned the first 7:36 of the contest. TCU pestered the Mavericks (4-7) into nine consecutive missed field goals in that stretch and drew eight fouls in the opening frame. Conner, Owens and Prince combined for 21 of TCU's 25 points in the quarter.
The Horned Frogs assumed their first 25-point lead of the evening three minutes into the second quarter off a deep ball by Una Jovanovic courtesy of a kick out from Roberson. The 6-2 sophomore widened the margin to 40-14 via a 3-pointer of her own 60 seconds later. Conner then connected for five straight points and ballooned TCU's advantage to 47-17 at the 2:53 mark of the period. A triple from Victoria Flores, followed by two free throws by Conner – she went 7-10 at the line in the half – staked TCU to a 55-26 lead entering the locker room.
TCU's 55 first half points scored were its most in a game since scoring an identical tally against SMU on Nov. 18, 2015. The Horned Frogs output was also tied for the seventh-most first half points scored in program history.
Prince scored 10 of TCU's first 12 points of the second half, widening the scoreboard to 67-30 with 5:55 to go in the third quarter. All of Prince's points came off looks inside the paint.
The Horned Frogs closed the third quarter on an 8-0 run over the final 1:37 of play. Agnes Emma-Nnopu (eight rebounds, five points) connected from behind the arc before Prince and Owens converted unaltered layups on TCU's final pair of possessions and made the score 78-40 entering the final frame.
Roberson scored seven of her points in the fourth quarter and reeled in four rebounds to lock up her double-double. TCU also benefitted from five points and four rebounds from DaiJa Turner.
TCU matched its season-high in assists with 24. Jovanovic, Roberson and Tara Manumaleuga pitched in three dimes apiece.
The Horned Frogs also finished with a plus-32 rebounding margin, their largest in the program's Big 12 era.
