53-point win was Horned Frogs' largest in six seasons
FORT WORTH – For the first time ever, the Horned Frogs ran the table in nonconference play.
No. 25 TCU steamrolled Mount St. Mary's 87-34 on Friday in Schollmaier Arena to cap a 13-0 finish to its non-league slate.
TCU will enter its Big 12 opener vs. BYU on Dec. 30 as one of just 10 unbeatens across the country.
The 53-point margin of victory was TCU's largest in six seasons. The Horned Frogs' 34 points surrendered were tied for the seventh-fewest in a game in program history.
Four players scored in double figures for the fourth straight game and sixth time in 2023-24.
Sedona Prince powered the Horned Frogs once more, finishing with 22 points, 15 rebounds six assists and three blocks on her way to her eighth double-double in 12 outings.
Agnes Emma-Nnopu produced a double-double of her own – her second of the year – via a 15-point, 10-rebound effort.
Madison Conner joined Prince in the 20-point club, tallying 21 on 9-19 shooting, while Aaliyah Roberson pitched in 10 of her own.
The Horned Frogs dished out 29 assists, tied for the third-most in a game in their 47-season existence. The feat was made all the more impressive by the fact that TCU played without its starting point guard in Jaden Owens (7.6 apg, 7.5 ppg), whom the Horned Frogs opted to rest.
Una Jovanovic ran point for the first time this season and promptly dished out a game and TCU career-high seven assists in Owens' place.
Tara Manumaleuga was credited with five assists while scoring a season-high nine points across 24 minutes.
TCU had the women's college basketball landscape to itself in what was the final women's basketball game to tip off before Christmas. And the Horned Frogs certainly maximized the national spotlight.
The game's opening sequence was a mirror image of that in the Horned Frogs' 40-point win over Omaha on Wednesday. TCU opened the evening with a 17-0 scoring run over the first 5:11 on its way to an 18-point advantage entering the second period.
Conner collected 11 points over the opening 10 minutes while Prince tallied seven points and five boards.
TCU limited Mount St. Mary's (3-8) to 2-16 shooting from the field. The Mountaineers' struggles to score were a harbinger of things to come.
The Horned Frogs held the Mountaineers to a 22.6 percent shooting clip (14-62), tied for the program's seventh-lowest field goal percentage allowed. Mount St. Mary's entered the intermission 5-31 (16 percent) from the field and with just one made basket inside the arc.
A 12-0 scoring surge midway through the second frame increased TCU's edge to 40-11 before the Horned Frogs took a 40-14 lead into the locker room.
The Horned Frogs then outscored the Mountaineers 31-3 in the third quarter and closed the quarter on a 25-0 run over the final 7:42. Conner, Emma-Nnopu and Prince combined for 25 of TCU's points.
TCU rested Prince for the entirety of the fourth quarter and pulled Conner less than three minutes in. The Horned Frogs still shot 7-14 from the field while working in their second unit. Manumaleuga recorded four of her assists in the final 10 minutes. TCU also played Victoria Flores and DaiJa Turner for the entirety of the quarter.
The Horned Frogs shot a season-best 59 percent from the field and converted a season-high 38 field goals.
TCU finished plus-23 (49-26) on the glass in what was its second-largest rebounding margin of the year.
The Horned Frogs committed a season-low three fouls and did not allow Mount St. Mary's to attempt a free throw.
