Head Coach Hector Gutierrez collects his 100th victory

FORT WORTH -- No. 3 TCU Beach Volleyball (17-0) swept both its opponents to stay perfect on the season in the opening day of the Fight in the Fort. The Horned Frogs secured 5-0 victories over New Orleans and Arizona State (RV). The win over ASU was the 100^th career victory for TCU Head Coach Hector Gutierrez, all at TCU.

"This was another great day for us," Gutierrez said. "We didn't drop a single set and were really focused on the things that we needed to in order to win. We played a great day of volleyball despite the conditions. I am really proud of how we handled the wind and the cold conditions with 100% effort. It's a great feeling to reach 100 wins here at TCU. I want to thank all the people who have gotten me here, especially the players and my staff. I am looking forward to many more with TCU. I am really happy that I got here, but the job is not done yet. I am just going to keep working harder for what is to come."

Under Gutierrez, TCU has won 43 of its last 50 regular season matches. Over the course of his career, he has collected 32 ranked victories, including 19 since the beginning of last season. Gutierrez led the Frogs to their first NCAA appearance last season and helped secure the program's first win over a Top-5 ranked team this season (No. 3 Florida State March 5, 2022). His all-time record with the Frogs is 100-60.

TCU extends its home winning streak to 22 matches, dating back to the 2020 season (March 6, 2020). The Frogs have won 12 of those 22 matches via 5-0 sweeps, including both matches today. This was the third time in program history that TCU won both matches in a day in 5-0 sweeps and just the second time doing so without dropping a set (20-0).

TCU showcased its depth today. The No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 pairings improved to 21-0 at home this season with six victories today. TCU is 16-1 at No. 5 specifically in 2022, led in large part, to the duo of Megan Muret and Rochelle Scott (11-1). Six combinations have started at No. 5 this season. The No. 5 pairing is tied for the winningest position on the sand with the No. 1 duo of Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno who hold a team-best 16-1 record following today's matches.

TCU won the final six sets of its match against No. 10 Cal last weekend, bringing its team winning streak to 26 sets, tied for the longest in program history.

QUICK HITS AGAINST New Orleans:

Megan Muret and Rochelle Scott scored the first point of the day in at the No. 5 position: 21-7, 21-12.
The duo improved their record to 11-1.
Maria Gonzalez and Ana Vergara took the next point for the Frogs in a two-set victory at No. 4: 21-8, 21-13.
The duo collected their 10^th win as a pairing.
Sutton MacTavish and Kaylie McHugh secured the Horned Frog victory in a win at the No. 2 position: 21-14, 21-18.
The pairing is riding a seven-game winning streak and improved their overall record to 7-2.
Alexis Filippone and Hailey Brockett scored the next point for TCU in a two-set victory at No. 3: 21-16, 21-17.
The duo achieved their 5^th win as a pairing.
Both improved their seasonal records to 9-3.
Alvarez and Moreno scored the final point for the Frogs in a two-set victory: 26-24, 21-16.
The duo notches their 15^th victory as a pairing this season.
This is the first meeting in program history between the Privateers and the Horned Frogs. The Frogs currently lead the series 1-0.

QUICK HITS AGAINST Arizona State:

Vergara and Gonzalez took the first point of the match for TCU in a two-set victory at No. 4: 21-16, 21-16.
The pairing collected their 12^th victory as a duo.
Muret and Scott scored the second point for the Frogs at the No. 5 position: 21-17, 21-16.
The duo improved their season record to 12-1 as a pairing.
Alvarez and Moreno clinch the Horned Frog victory for the fourth time this season: 21-13, 21-12
Riding a nine-game winning streak, the duo picked up their 16^th win of the season.
The pairing achieves their 42^nd collegiate win as partners.
MacTavish and McHugh scored the next point for TCU from the No. 2 position: 21-15, 21-17.
The duo collects their 8^th win as a pairing.
Filippone and Brockett secured the sweep in a two-set victory at No. 3: 21-12, 21-18.
The pairing notches their 6^th win as a duo and both secure their 10^th wins of the season.
This is the Horned Frogs' 7th sweep this season.
All five Frog pairings delivered perfect days without dropping a single set.
The last time the Sand Devils and the Frogs met up was in 2018. Arizona State leads the series 3-2.
