Horned Frogs are into the Indoor National Semifinals
SEATTLE, Wash. – No. 4 TCU men's tennis (10-1) made a statement on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the No. 13-seeded Texas Longhorns (7-4), 4-0, inside the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle, Wash. TCU advances into the semifinals of the ITA Team Indoor National Championship with the win. The Frogs will play the winner of No. 1 Ohio State vs. No. 8 Wake Forest, tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT.
The Horned Frogs are into the Indoor Nationals semifinals for the fourth time in program history and the first time since 2016. TCU is 1-2 all-time in semifinal matches with the lone win coming in 1992.
This was TCU's eighth win in a row and fifth straight over a ranked opponent, the longest winning streak against ranked opponents since 2019. Six of TCU's 10 victories this season have come against Top 20 ranked programs.
"Anytime you beat Texas, it's a good day for the Frogs," head coach David Roditi said. "It was an absolute battle, like we thought it would be. I thought, even though the score was 4-0, it was anybody's match for a long time. Coach Bowen made some adjustments in doubles and we just came out firing. It was great to get off to such a great start in doubles. Then, we jumped all over them in the first set in singles. We had a hard time closing them out, but these guys compete, it's always difficult to close out a team of that caliber. It was critical that Pedro got off his court, and he did. Sander came up big with a tiebreaker to put us up, 3-0, then, Charlie Aguilar, again. The clinch man. He's been in those situations before. He has such great experience. He was the right man for the job and now we're into the Final Four. We don't know who we're going to play, but we know it's going to be a war. Again, thank you to the fans for being out here, supporting us on the road. It means a lot and we love playing in front of you. Go Frogs!"
The Horned Frogs clinched the dual with three singles victories from Pedro Vives, Sander Jong and Juan Carlos Aguilar. Vives and Aguilar have contributed points in both Indoor Nationals matches this weekend.
TCU won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The Horned Frogs are 10-1 in doubles points this season, getting back into the win column after losing its first doubles point of the season yesterday.
