
Okonkwo to Compete in Summer Olympics with Nigeria

Former Horned Frog becomes first basketball player to compete in Olympics
FORT WORTH – Former TCU women's basketball standout Amy Okonkwo has been named to the Nigerian National Team and will head to Tokyo to compete in the Summer Olympics.
Okonkwo, who becomes the first former women's basketball player from TCU to compete in the Olympics, most recently scored six points in a tune-up game against Team USA this past Sunday in Las Vegas, Nev. She went 2-for-3 from the field, pulled down a pair of rebounds and had a steal in her 5-plus minutes of action.
Okonkwo and the Nigerian team will be placed in Group B when the teams begin pool play in Tokyo. Nigeria will face USA in its opening game on Tuesday, July 27. Nigeria will then take on France that following Friday, July 30, prior to closing out pool play against Japan on Monday, Aug. 2.
Okonkwo scored 1,324 points and tallied 606 rebounds in her three seasons at TCU (2016-19). She averaged 13.1 points and 6.0 rebounds, while shooting .479 from the field, .368 from three-point range and .850 from the charity stripe in 101 games. She was a two-time All-Big 12 selection and earned the league's Sixth Man of the Year Award following the 2017-18 season.
