PISCATAWAY, N.J. – It took 110 minutes and seven rounds of penalty kicks to decide who would advance to the Elite Eight, but ultimately Rutgers prevailed, topping TCU 5-4 in PKs. The Horned Frogs forced overtime on Camryn Lancaster's goal in the 85th minute. The contest remained 1-1 after a pair of overtime stanzas.
The Rundown
TCU controlled most of the possession in the contest. The Frogs held a 9-3 shot advantage in the first half, but it was the Scarlet Knights that had the 1-0 lead.
In the 18th minute, Rutgers found room to run and turned it into a 1-0 lead. Samantha Kroeger went for a run and hit Amirah Ali in stride for a quick shot that just eluded a diving Lauren Kellett.
The Frogs looked poised to get the game knotted at one in the 40th minute. Skylar Heinrich found herself with room to move. She fired off a shot that was saved by the keeper. On the subsequent rebound, a Rutgers defender was in the right place to kick the ball out of danger before it crossed the line.
TCU continued to pack on the pressure in the second half, firing off seven shots, six of which were on goal. The heavy pressure finally paid dividends as the Frogs found the tying goal in the 86th minute.
Jenna Winebrenner got the play started from the back line, finding Gracie Brian at midfield. Brian fed Camryn Lancaster on the sideline. The freshman went for a run to the middle of the field and into the 18. Her low shot through traffic found its way inside the near post for a 1-1 game.
TCU outshot Rutgers 5-2 in the overtimes but couldn't find the back of the net.
In penalty kicks, the first four shooters for both teams converted. Lauren Kellett and Meagan McClelland went toe-to-toe in the next two rounds, each making saves, but it was McClelland that came up with the third save in the seventh round. Rutgers converted to win the shootout.

Quotes of the Game
Head Coach Eric Bell
On the game:
"First off, congratulations to Rutgers for advancing. They are a very good team and we wish them all the best as they move forward in the tournament.
"I don't think the soccer gods were with us today. I thought we did a really good job of creating a lot of opportunities for our group. We had the ball for the lion's share of the game. It's unfortunate that we weren't able to find a second goal. I thought we dominated large portions of the game where we were really, really good. We gave up a goal on a counter attack in the first half, but other than that they didn't create a whole lot after that as far as their chances were concerned.
"I'm really proud of our group and what they were able to do throughout the course of the season. I'm really proud of our seniors for doing what they did, coming to TCU in 2018 when we were still trying to build our brand and get us to a point where we are recognized as a nationally prominent program. Our group represented TCU and Fort Worth very well. The future is still bright. Come next semester, we will get the band back together and try and do it all over again."
