Horned Frogs score second-most points in NCAA Tournament game
FORT WORTH – Behind goal contributions from four players, the No. 2 seed TCU women's soccer team defeated Grambling State, 7-0, on Friday night at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
The four individuals for TCU who helped guide the Frogs to the second-highest scoring NCAA Tournament performance in team history were Seven Castain, Emma Yolinsky, Cameron Patton and Grace Vest.
THE RUNDOWN
TCU (16-2-2, 9-1-1 Big 12) earned its large margin of victory and was offensively powered by a five-goal second half. However, the contributions started early in the first half, as Castain capitalized off a Grambling State miscue and was able to make offense out of defense in the 11th minute to get the scoring started.
Yolinsky would quickly follow in the 22nd minute off a beautiful ball from Castain, bringing the ledger to 2-0. The scoring would stand still until halftime, but the flood gates would soon open in the final 45 minutes.
In the 53rd minute, Yolinsky would secure her second goal of the match on a ball fed from Sydney Becerra through two defenders. Seven Castain would then earn her share of back-to-back goals, the first coming from a well-executed build up from the Frogs Becerra and AJ Hennessey earning assists on the play and the second taking place off a Marli Galdamez feed to Cameron Patton who would cross the ball into the far side of the box and find Castain for the header to secure the hat trick.
The final two scores in tonight's contest were tallied by Patton in the 78th minute on a ball deflected around in the box off a Vest cross, and then Vest would join in on the fun with a penalty kick conversion. The Frogs outshot the Lady Tigers 22-5 in tonight's contest, putting 11 of those on goal.
Olivia Geller played 61 minutes in goal and Kira Ybarra totaled 29 minutes in relief, with Ybarra recording two saves.
Castain earned her second hat trick of the season, moving up into second-place all-time in TCU history for goals (38) and third in program history for points (91). The senior scored one goal in the first half and then a pair of goals in the second to lead the charge past Grambling State.
Yolinsky, with her back-to-back goals, secured a brace in the victory. This secured the Prosper, Texas, native's first multi-goal performance of her career.
QUOTE OF THE GAME
On tonight's match…
"I think we started off a little rusty in the first half. I think we responded to the information that we gave them at the half and came out and played really well in the second half. Really happy with the momentum that we have going into our next game."
