Horned Frogs unable to take down Seminoles
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In the first ever College Cup match for the TCU women's soccer team, the second-seeded Frogs fell to the No. 3 Seminoles, 1-0, on Friday night at CPKC Stadium.
THE RUNDOWN
TCU (18-3-3, 9-1-1 Big 12) saw a vaguely similar story to last week unfold during the first half. Even with a 9-3 shot deficit going in the way of the Seminoles and numerous shots on goal faced, the TCU defensive unit was able to hold strong and produce an even score through the first 45.
Olivia Geller continued her hot streak in goal, tallying two impressive saves within 30 seconds of each other during the first 10 minutes of action to help keep the score at a 0-0 standstill. Overall for the night, the sophomore posted seven saves. Sydney Becerra, Grace Vest and Seven Castain had shots in the first half for the Frogs.
Geller would grab another set of clutch saves in the early portion of the second half, notching four overall for the second period.
In the 73rd minute, Florida State would score off a left-footed volley in the box that just went past the reach of Geller and the Seminoles would take a 1-0 lead. The dramatics did not stop there, as in the 77th minute on the TCU attack the ball appeared to hit the arm of the Florida State defender inside the box, but no penalty was called during live action. However, even after video review it was claimed there was no handball and TCU was left still searching for a goal.
The Frogs would have multiple chances to capitalize and level the score in the closing minutes, including a last-second opportunity for Castain, but the Florida State goalkeeper was able to save the shot and nothing was able to hit the back of the net as the clock would hit zero before TCU was able to get one across.
