
TCU's Comeback Falls Short at WVU

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia -- The TCU women's basketball team fell behind late in the first half, stormed back in the fourth quarter, but the comeback was just short as the Frogs fell to West Virginia, 77-73, at WVU Coliseum on Wednesday night.
TCU (12-15, 4-12) was down by 12 points entering the fourth quarter, but in seemingly no time got within one possession. However, TCU could never pull even as West Virginia (19-9, 7-9) held on for the win.
AJ Alix led TCU with 21 points, five assists and four steals. Jada Butts was just behind with 18 points, including six in the final three minutes to keep TCU's comeback hopes alive. Tynice Martin and Teana Muldrow each scored 25 points for West Virginia.
Defining Moments
The Frogs allowed 29 points in the second quarter and fell behind by as much as 14 late in the third quarter. TCU, though, started the fourth quarter on an 11-1 run to get within two points, 60-58, with 6:03 remaining.
It was then that Martin hit a 3-pointer to quickly squash TCU's momentum and start a 7-0 Mountaineer run that grew the lead back up to nine points, 67-58.
TCU wouldn't get back within one possession until Alix's third 3-pointer with 26 seconds left made the score 74-71. WVU would make 3-of-4 free throws after that to close out the game.
Stat of the Game
22 -- TCU forced West Virginia into 22 turnovers, the most the Frogs have forced in a Big 12 game this season. TCU committed just 13 of its own turnovers against a WVU team that is known for its halfcourt pressure.
Up Next
The Frogs return home to host Oklahoma on Saturday at 7 p.m. inside Schollmaier Arena. It will be Senior Night as the Frogs will honor Jada Butts and Carol Willie after the game.
