Inside Game Pushes Baylor Past TCU

WACO, Texas -- No. 6/7 Baylor got 52 points in the paint and took advantage of 18 second chance points to beat TCU 72-55 on Saturday afternoon at the Ferrell Center in front of 7,081 fans.
TCU (10-5, 2-2) jumped out to an early 13-7 lead before Baylor used a series of small runs to separate themselves from the Frogs. Senior All-American candidate Zahna Medley nailed an early three and sophomore AJ Alix added her own pair of three-point field goals in the opening five minute to help give the Frogs the early lead. Baylor answered the early TCU push with a 6-0 run to tie it before TCU went up four at 17-13.
The Lady Bears answered with their first big run of the game, scoring the final five of the first quarter as part of a 14-2 run that put them up 27-19. It was second chance points that gave Baylor life as TCU's strong start. Baylor held a 26-11 advantage on the boards at the break, resulting in 14 second chance points for the Lady Bears in the opening 20 minutes.
Baylor pushed their lead to 33-21 with three minutes to go in the first half before the Frogs scored six of the last seven points of the half, including a three from Medley, to pull within 35-27 at the break.
The teams exchanged baskets early in the second half before Baylor used a 9-0 run to pull ahead 48-32. TCU pulled within 12 later in the third quarter at 52-40 before Baylor gradually pulled away, going on a 22-5 run build their biggest lead of the game at 25 points at 72-47.
The Frogs scored the final eight points of the game.
Medley led TCU with 16 points and was joined in double figures by Alix with 15 points and freshman Jordan Moore's 11 points. Baylor (16-1, 3-1) held TCU to just 33.3 percent shooting for the game and finished with a 42-29 advantage on the boards.
Baylor's Beatrice Mompremier led the Lady Bears with 18 points, hitting 8-of-10 shots in the game.
NOTES
Freshman Jordan Moore had 11 points in 17 minutes but was limited in minutes after being called for two fouls in the opening 58 seconds of the game.
TCU has now faced ranked foes in consecutive games for the first time in two seasons. The Frogs faced Baylor and Oklahoma State in back-to-back games during the 2013-14 season. TCU played No. 17/19 Oklahoma this week in addition to today's game with No. 6/7 Baylor.
TCU shot under 35 percent for just the second time this season and for the first time since shooting 31.8 percent at Butler on Dec. 1, 2015.
TCU converted on 8-of-22 three-point attempts in the game, marking the 11th time this season that the Frogs have hit eight or more three-point field goals in a game.
TCU is now 3-1 this season in bounce-back games. Bounce-back games are considered the game immediately following a loss. Under head coach Raegan Pebley, the Frogs are 13-4 in bounce-back games after posting a 10-3 record in her first season in Fort Worth.

The Frogs return to the court on Wednesday night in the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena as TCU welcomes Texas Tech to Fort Worth. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest Plus with Chuck LaMendola (play-by-play) and TCU great Janice Dziuk (analyst) on the call. The game is also available on on the radio via KTCU 88.7 FM in the DFW Metroplex and through GoFrogs.com with Jeff Williams (play-by-play) on the call.
It will be the second meeting between TCU and Texas Tech this season. The Frogs beat the Lady Raiders 78-69 in Lubbock on Dec. 30. TCU overcame a 15-point second half deficit to win their Big 12 Conference opener for the first time in their four years as a member of the league.
