The Opponent
No. 22 SMU comes into Wednesday's tilt with a 4-0 record after dropping Brown in its last outing, 77-69. Against the Bears, the Mustangs, who were without Nic and Ben Moore, were carried by Keith Frazier, who dropped 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Jarrey Foster followed with 15 points and seven boards. On the season, Frazier is averaging 14.0 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per contest. Nic Moore has been just as productive, averaging 12.0 points and 3.7 boards a game.
The Series
SMU owns a 104-85 lead in the all-time series after posting a 69-61 victory in 2013. Despite the loss, TCU has owned an edge in the series since the breakup of the Southwest Conference in 1996, taking 15 of the last 23 meetings.
A Closer Look
SMU ranks as the most-played rival in TCU's program history, as Wednesday's match-up marks the 190th time the two teams have met on the hardwood. Former conference rivals in both the Southwest Conference (1923-96) and WAC (1996-2001), the two squads have played each other at least once in all but two season's since 1921 (2003-04 & 2014-15).
The Game After
If recent history suggests anything, TCU should be in good shape against SMU Wednesday. Since 2010, the Purple and White have never lost the game directly following a regular-season tournament, going 5-0. In the five outings, the Horned Frogs have averaged 71.6 points per game, while holding the opposition to 62 points per contest.
Grab The Rock
TCU is a perfect 3-0 this season when out-rebounding its opponent. The Frogs are 30-15 all-time under Trent Johnson when out-rebounding the opposition. TCU out-rebounded Illinois State, 34-33, to capture third-place in Cancun.
In The Final 5 Minutes
In TCU's five games this season, several individuals have stepped up in the last five minutes of a ballgame. Brandon Parrish is a perfect 6-for-6 from the field during that stretch, while senior Devonta Abron is shooting 80 percent from the floor. Newcomer Vladimir Brodziansky has also been rock solid, going 5-of-9 from the field, which is close to 60 percent.
Comparing The Two
A trend has become apparent in TCU's five games this season. In the three wins, the Horned Frogs have gotten to the line 94 times, while shooting 76 percent from the charity stripe. In the two losses, TCU has only attempted 46 free throws, connecting on 72 percent of them. The Purple and White have also shared the rock better in the three wins, tallying 26 more assists in games won.
Second Chance Points
In the first five outings, TCU has combined to outscore its opponent in second-chance points, 61-51. Against Illinois State, the Purple and White didn't hold an advantage over their opponent in second-chance points for only the second time this year.
Starting Strong
In the first five games of the season, TCU has combined to outscore its opponent 43-21 in the first 4 minutes of the game. During that stretch, the Horned Frogs have held the opposition to a 9-for-30 showing from the field.
Collins In Double-Figures Equals Victory
Chauncey Collins has filled in nicely for departed all-conference honoree Kyan Anderson so far this season as he has posted back-to-back double-digit outings for the first time in his career, which included a career-high 17 in the season-opener. TCU is now 5-0 all-time when Collins scores in double-figures.
