Scott Inducted Into Rice Hall of Fame

Scott heads into his fourth season as an assistant coach in Fort Worth. This past year, he helped the Frogs become one of only six teams in the entire nation to start the year 13-0 joining only Kentucky, Duke, Virginia, Villanova and Colorado State. The Purple and White were also ranked No. 25 in the AP Top 25 prior to the start of conference play, which hadn't happened in over 10 years.
A native of Lansing, Mich., Scott owns a basketball resume that extends well beyond his coaching career back to his time as a standout Division I player for the Owls and a 14-year professional career.
Scott finished his college career as Rice's all-time leading scorer (1,906 points) and rebounder (1,049 boards), totals that still to this day rank No. 2 in the school's record books. He was a three-time second-team All-Southwest Conference honoree (1991, 1992, 1993) who led the team in scoring his sophomore (16.9 ppg) and junior (15.8 ppg) seasons before posting a career-high 17.3-point average as a senior in 1993.
After his successful college career, Scott put together a long professional run that saw him play for 16 different teams and in eight different leagues in five countries over 14 years. He was the 82nd pick in the 1993 CBA draft by Rapid City, but ended up playing overseas in Greece for Larissa in 1994 and 1995. In the summer of 1995, he played for the Miami Tropics in the USBL, averaging 22.8 points and 12 rebounds per game.
Scott opened 1996 in Italy with Libertas Forli (16.5 ppg) before returning to the USBL with the Portland Mountain Cats. He was the USBL's top scorer that season, averaging 29.8 points while pulling down 13.0 boards per contest.
Scott's success in the USBL helped him to reach the NBA in 1997 with the Indiana Pacers. He appeared in 16 games for the Pacers that season before finishing the year playing for the Atlantic City Seagulls in the USBL. He also spent time in Europe with Taugres Saki Baskonia Vitoria in Spain (14 ppg). The next season, Scott played for Reggio Calabria in Italy (19.8 ppg) before returning to Spain for the 1999-2000 season with the Real Madrid squad that captured the Spanish National Championship.
After another season with Reggio Calabria in 2001 (19.9 ppg), Scott played for Pallalcesto Amatori Udine in Italy (2002) and PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece (2003). He returned to play in Spain in 2004 and 2005 and split time in 2006 between teams in Spain and Poland. In his final pro season, he played for AEK Athens (Greece), averaging 10.4 points and 6.2 boards in 36 contests.
In all, Scott played 13 years with First Division-level European teams. He played in the 1994 Greek, 1997 Spanish and the 1998 and 2001 Italian All-Star Games. He was a first-team USBL member in 1997.
Scott earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Rice in 2003.
