Horned Frogs sign Latvian guard
FORT WORTH – TCU men's basketball announced the signing of Ricards Aizpurs (pronounced rish-ards eyes-purs) on Tuesday.
Aizpurs is a 6-6 guard from Gulbene, Latvia who played for Star Alliance in Italy last season. Earlier this month he competed for Team Next Gen at the 2026 Adidas Eurocamp in Treviso, Italy.
He has been a part of the Stella Azzurra program, a development academy renowned across Europe for producing elite-level talent. In the 2024-25 season, Aizpurs averaged 33.6 points per game in Italian U17 competition, while also putting up 18 points per game playing up at the U18 level as a 16-year old. He continued to establish himself as one of the most prolific scorers in his class at the U19 level this past season.
Aizpurs played in 2026 Basketball Without Borders Global, which brought together 40 of the top high school age prospects from 29 countries and territories and averaged 8.2 points over five games. In the summer of 2025, he participated in the Basketball Without Borders Europe Camp and was named to the All-Star Five.
Aizpurs represented Latvia at the FIBA U16 EuroBasket 2024 and averaged 18.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Also in the 2024-25 season, he was a member of the Next Gen team that captured the Adidas NextGen EuroLeague Munich Tournament title.
Aizpurs joins spring signees Luke Bamgboye, Sam Fleming, Ryan Hunt, Trent Lincoln, Gavin Murphy, Miloš Šojić, Gavin Sykes, and DJ Thomas as newcomers for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
