POSTGAME QUOTES
TCU 96, Houston Baptist 38
Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum)
Nov. 12, 2010
Attendance: 2,415
TCU Head Coach Jeff Mittie
On getting the ball where it needs to be:
"Emily (Carter) and Helena (Sverrisdottir) are going to get the majority of the shots. We are going to run things to get them shots and it's important that our group knows that. They know that the basketball has to get to certain areas. Starr Crawford has to get touches inside for us to be good. We've got to utilize Micah Garoutte's passing ability. So the one thing that I think that this team has gotten better at over the last week is their commitment to getting those things accomplished."
On being happy with his team's play right now:
"No. We have only played one game. I just think there are always things that you need to work on to get better. There are always things that you're not comfortable with. For example, we were even with Houston Baptist in rebounding for most of the game. That's not an area that I'm going to be pleased with. I'm not going to be pleased to know that we had a size advantage against them and I'm watching us not perform great. We were better tonight, it's a step in the right direction."
"We've got a big stretch coming up where we are going to play a very good team next Wednesday and then we've got NCAA and NIT Tournament teams."
Senior Guard Emily Carter
On becoming the 12th playing in program history to score more then 1,000 points in a career:
"I didn't know at first. I knew I was close, but I wasn't keeping track of my points during the game. Helena (Sverrisdottir) said something about "one more" and that's when it finally clicked in my head. It feels good. It's a good way to start the season."
Senior Guard/Forward Helena Sverrisdottir
On what the team can take away from this game:
"We were focusing on ourselves tonight. We wanted to come out and set our standards high for the year. Every play, on offense or defense, we were just focusing on what we've been working on and trying to get better tonight."
On shooting the ball more:
"I've always looked at it as what would my team need from me. If the team needs me to take more shots, then I will look for more opportunities for that. I could have finished better tonight, but overall, I'm here to help the team win in any way that I can."
