LAS VEGAS -- The TCU Lady Frogs (11-8, 5-3 MWC) lost a 61-50 decision to the UNLV Rebels (13-6, 5-3) on Thursday night in Las Vegas' Thomas & Mack Center. It was the Lady Frogs' first loss to the Rebels in five all-time meetings.
The Lady Frogs had no answer for UNLV's Sherry McCracklin down in the post. The fifth-year senior shot 7-of-9 from the field and 7-of-10 at the free-throw line to finish with 21 points, and she added 16 rebounds in 37 minutes of play. Sheena Moore added 17 for the Rebels.
Jenna Lohse paced TCU with 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Ten of her points came in the second, and she grabbed five offensive rebounds. Vanessa Clementino chipped in with 11 points to mark her second game in a row reaching double figures.
UNLV looked as if it would pull away quickly from TCU in the first half, leading by as many as 13 at 18-5 with 11:22 to go. The Lady Frogs were able to score 10 points in the final 4:06 to cut the disparity to 27-22 at the half.
The Lady Frogs continued to chip away at UNLV's lead in the second stanza and actually took the lead 35-34 with 13:04 remaining after Natasha Lacy's layup.
Lohse chopped the Rebels' advantage to 45-44 after an easy bucket inside with 8:57 on the clock. UNLV responded with a 16-6 run to finish out the contest.
TCU shot 29.6 percent (16-for-54) from the field and was just 1-of-16 (.063) on threes. UNLV went 19-of-48 (.396) and was 1-for-10 (.100) from three-point range.
The Lady Frogs next host Wyoming on Wednesday at 7 p.m. CST in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
