Crutchfield Named TCU Director of Basketball Operations

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU head men's basketball coach Neil Dougherty has announced that Chris Crutchfield has been hired as the program's director of operations. Crutchfield spent the previous four seasons as an assistant coach at New Mexico State.
"We're excited to have Chris join our staff," Dougherty said. "He is a very hard worker who can bring a lot to our program. Chris is very familiar with Texas and will also set a good example in everything he does. He will be someone whom the kids can look up to and emulate."
Crutchfield served the past four years on former New Mexico State coach Lou Henson's staff. He was part of 20-win seasons during both the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons. In addition, the Aggies claimed the 2002 Sun Belt Conference championship.
"I had the honor to work for a coaching legend in Lou Henson for four years and now I am getting to work alongside Coach Dougherty, who I feel is one of the hottest up-and-coming coaches in the business," Crutchfield said. "I will be a sponge just trying to soak up information from this staff every day. Someone told me a long time ago to put myself around good people. I'm in very good company here."
Crutchfield has experience at a pair of Texas colleges. Following two seasons as an assistant coach at Tyler (Texas) Junior College, he took over as the school's head coach for the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 campaigns. As head coach, his teams posted an overall record of 35-28 (.556). In addition, his Apache squads had a graduation rate of 91 percent.
Prior to taking the position at Tyler in June of 1997, he spent the 1996-97 season as an assistant coach at Texas-San Antonio. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, the University of Nebraska-Omaha, in the 1995-96 campaign. Crutchfield is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), Black Coaches Association (BCA) and the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC).
Crutchfield graduated from the University of Nebraska-Omaha with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 1992. He received his master's degree from UNO in health, physical education and administration in 1996. He and his wife Jodi have been married for 12 years. The couple has three sons: Derrick (18), Jallen (5) and Joshua (4). Derrick is a freshman point guard at Panola Junior College in Carthage, Texas.
