Lady Frogs down Missouri Western 76-62 in exhibition

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU women's basketball team posted a 76-62 victory against the Missouri Western Griffons on Sunday in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. It was the Lady Frogs' first exhibition contest of the 2005-06 season.
The Lady Frogs raced out to a 13-2 lead in the first 4:42 of the game. TCU led by as many as 16, coming when Vanessa Clementino canned a pair of free throws with 3:32 remaining to put her squad up 38-22. The Griffons closed with a 10-2 run to cut the TCU advantage to eight, 40-32.
TCU dominated inside in the first half with a 30-8 edge in points in the paint. The Lady Frogs also forced 20 Missouri Western turnovers and committed just eight. Both teams had similar success shooting the ball, with TCU hitting 43.6 percent (17-of-39) of its shots and Missouri Western 43.5 percent (10-of-23).
The Griffons came out in the second half and inched within three, 43-40, of the Lady Frogs when Brandi Rodgers nailed a three-pointer with 16:48 to go. TCU was able to increase its lead back to double figures thanks to two free throws by Adrianne Ross at the 14:10 mark that made the score 52-42.
Jill Johnson trimmed the TCU lead back to single digits at 55-47 when she drained a trey with 13:11 showing on the scoreboard. The Lady Frogs went on an 8-0 run over the next 2:49 and continued to lead by 16 with 7:47 remaining. TCU's largest advantage came with 3:57 on the clock when a Natasha Lacy free throw pushed the score to 72-54.
Clementino tallied 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting and a 5-for-6 effort at the free-throw line to lead TCU. Ross scored 14 in her first game since tearing her ACL against Georgia in November 2004. Davis reached double figures with 10, as did Lacy who also added a game-high nine rebounds and eight assists. Ashley Goodwin turned in a solid performance off the bench with seven points and seven boards.
Johnson led all scorers with 19 and she hauled in eight rebounds. Rodgers was the only other Griffon who reached double figures in the scoring column with 11.
TCU finished the game with a 48-12 edge in the paint and outscored Missouri Western 16-8 on the fast break. The Lady Frogs caused 30 turnovers and made 17. The Griffons connected on 10 threes compared to just two for TCU and were 14-of-17 (.824) at the line while the Lady Frogs were 18-of-28 (.643).
The Purple and White hosts Everyones Internet on Saturday at 2 p.m. for its final tune-up of the season. Regular-season play begins with a home contest against Long Beach State on Friday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. CST.
