Hello, my name is Ashley "Big Baby" Goodwin. I was born and raised in Columbia, S.C., by my mother and father Martha and Herbert Goodwin. I also have an older brother, Delvin, who is 22 years old now.
My father died of liver cancer on Feb. 16, 2003. This was a very hard situation for me to deal with, but my friends and family helped me through it. My mom is a very strong woman and handled my father's death very well. You could never really tell that she was in pain when you were around her. My mom was very optimistic and kept my brother and me from being depressed about the situation. I appreciate her for that. LOVE YOU MOM!
I am 19 years old and a sophomore here at TCU. "Big Baby" is the nickname that was given to me the summer of my freshman year in Texas. EVERYBODY calls me that! I hardly ever hear people call me Ashley anymore except for my professors. My coaches, teammates, alumni, and our practice squad guys all call me "Big Baby." Coach Tidwell tried to give me a new nickname, "Big Time," this summer because I had stepped my game up in basketball, but it didn't stick.
When I was younger, I always wanted to do everything like my older brother. I looked up to him a lot and wanted to be just like him. When he played soccer, I played soccer. When he did karate, I did karate. When he played basketball, I played basketball. But when he quit basketball, I kept with it. I love playing basketball and I think that it is the best sport there is!
My very best friend in the whole wide world is Donneil Smith. He is like an older brother to me. I have known him for almost half of my life and we have been really good friends for about five years now. He has been there for me through a lot and I have also been there for him through a lot. I talk to him everyday and we both really appreciate our friendship.
My other best friend, Audrey Castor, is also very special to me. I have known her since I started playing basketball. We have played together on so many different teams throughout our lives. She was there for me when my father died and I also value her friendship. Hope to see you on the court soon sister! LOVE YOU DONNEIL AND AUDREY!
Our team is looking very solid this year. I think we can be a very successful team and we should have a lot of fan support this year. I'm very excited and hope that our team can earn a lot of respect in the Mountain West Conference. Like coach Tidwell always says, "Think Purple, Think TCU!"
