FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU women's basketball coach Jeff Mittie released the team's challenging 2001-02 schedule today. The Lady Frogs, who advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago, will play 15 games against teams that received postseason bids in 2000-01.
TCU's 28-game slate includes 18 home contests, including clashes with NCAA participants Rutgers (Dec. 8), Southwest Missouri State (Dec. 15), Arkansas (Dec. 29), Louisville (Jan. 20) and Tulane (Feb. 10). Southwest Missouri State advanced to the Final Four last season, while Louisville and Tulane represented TCU's new conference--Conference USA.
"It's the best home schedule we've had since I've been here," the third-year head coach said. "We've got some outstanding home games both at Daniel-Meyer and at the convention center."
TCU has a nine-game homestand that spans from Nov. 30 through Jan. 3. During that time the Frogs will play a pair of doubleheaders (Dec. 15 and Dec. 29) with the TCU men at the Fort Worth Convention Center. The matchup with Arkansas is the opening game of the second annual Fort Worth Classic. The Cook Children's TCU Hoops Classic is set for Dec. 1-3, with San Diego State and Prairie View A&M taking part in the round-robin event.
On the road, the Lady Frogs start out with a tough stretch, playing at Air Force (Nov. 18) prior to taking on Oregon (Nov. 24), who made the NCAA Tournament last year, as well as Sweet Sixteen participant Oklahoma (Nov. 27).
"We've got a lot of tough road games as well, especially with Oregon and Oklahoma on the schedule," he said. "And going on the road in a new conference is always a difficult thing to do. Conference USA is going to be a huge challenge for us."
In addition to Louisville and Tulane, C-USA schools visiting Fort Worth include: Houston, Cincinnati, Southern Miss, DePaul and Marquette. The Lady Frogs will travel to Houston, Charlotte, East Carolina, South Florida, UAB, Memphis and Saint Louis. The conference tournament is set for March 1-4 in Chicago, Ill.
