Minyon Moore, a rising star in the coaching ranks and former three-time All-Pac-12 defensive team guard, is entering her third year as an assistant women's basketball coach at TCU ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Moore, whose first name is pronounced “min-yawn,” has mentored under TCU head coach Mark Campbell for five years, including the last four as an assistant coach. She served as an assistant on his staff at Sacramento State from 2021-23 and played for Campbell and TCU associate head coach Xavier Lopez at Oregon during the 2019-20 campaign.
At TCU, Moore works directly with the Horned Frogs’ guards and oversees the team’s defensive strategy.
TCU (2023-Present)
Moore's contributions have catapulted TCU into the national mainstream. With Moore on the sideline, TCU has spiked its combined year-over win differential by and NCAA-leading 26 games since 2023. She arrived in Fort Worth alongside Campbell on the heels of an 8-23 season. Fast forward two years and Moore and Co. twice cut down the conference championship nets, sweeping the Big 12 regular season and tournament titles, and helped guide the Horned Frogs to the NCAA Elite eight. TCU finished with a 34-4 overall record and earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, marking the program's first berth in the Big Dance in 15 seasons, and became the first Horned Frog men's or women's basketball team to advance to the second weekend
Moore has continually tightened TCU's defensive alignment across her two seasons along Stadium Dr. Ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, TCU and Moore have prevented 50 teams from making at least six 3-pointers and limited 44 opponents from connecting at or above a 40 percent clip from the field. Just 31 percent (49-of-61) of TCU's opponents have shot better than 33 percent behind the arc opposite the Frogs' defense.
While simultaneously shattering nearly ever major offensive school record in 2024-25, TCU quietly became one of the country's more robust defensive unis. Last season, the Frogs were one of only seven teams at the D1 level scoring at least 77 points per game while surrendering 58-or-fewer. TCU limited 25-of-38 opponents to five-or-fewer deep balls, allowing just 4.8 makes from downtown per night, and held teams to less than 20 points in a half a school record 13 games. The Frogs ranked second in the Big 12 in points allowed per game (57.6) and field goal percentage defense (.368) and boasted the nation's fourth-best blocks per game average (.5.9).
TCU emit in full across the national radar as "3-and-D U" in 2023-24, and Moore's efforts played a large hand in the Horned Frogs' proficiency at both sides of the court. With Moore setting TCU's defensive sets in tandem with Campbell, the Horned Frogs kept 27 of 33 opponents under their season scoring average, limited 24 teams to no better than 33 percent shooting from behind the arc, surrendered six-or-fewer threes in 22 games and held 20 teams below a 40 percent clip from the field. At the conclusion of the regular season, TCU and National Champion South Carolina were the only squads in the country ranking in the top-25 in 3-point percentage offense and defense. Moore's schemes also saw TCU rank second in the Big 12 and in the top-30 nationally in field goal percentage defense (36.9) and blocks per game (4.9) at season's end.
Moore helped TCU enjoy the greatest turnaround season of any Power Six conference program, boosting the Horned Frogs' win tally by 13 games after inheriting a team that finished 8-23 overall and 1-17 in Big 12 play the season prior. With Moore on the sidelines, TCU finished the 2023-24 season with a 21-12 overall record, achieved a season-high AP top-25 ranking of No. 23 and advanced to the second round of the WBIT for the program's first postseason berth in five years. Together, she and Campbell have produced a combined 35-game year-over-year win improvment in three shared seasons on the bench.
Sacramento State (2021-23)
While working alongside Campbell and Lopez at Sac State, Moore’s first two years on the bench proved nothing short of spectacular. Together, the trio pioneered the Hornets to a series of program firsts. With Moore’s leadership, Sac State won a school record 25 games in 2022-2023 and earned the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament berth. The Hornets also won a share of their first Big Sky regular season championship and first Big Sky Tournament title. The 25 victories marked the first 20-win season in program history and were also the most ever by a Sacramento State men's or women's basketball team.
In 2021-22, Moore helped facilitate an 11-game year-over-year win improvement, tied for the nation's seventh-best turnaround, at Sac State after inheriting a program that went 3-22 the previous season.
Individually, Moore helped coach four players to All-Big Sky honors, including conference players of the year Lianna Tillman (2021-22) and Kahlaijah Dean (2022-23).
Moore was honored as one of the nation's "50 Most Impactful Mid-Major Assistants" by Silver Waves Media ahead of the Hornets' record-setting 2022-23 campaign.
Playing Career
Moore got her start in the Division I coaching ranks on the strength of a standout playing career that spanned two Pac-12 stops. She played three seasons for USC from 2016-2019, twice earning All-Pac-12 Defensive team honors, before transferring to Oregon for her final year. While in Eugene and playing for Campbell, Moore helped lead the Ducks to a sweep of the Pac-12 regular season and tournament titles. She was named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive team for the third time in her career. Moore was also part of a dominant Ducks team that seemed destined for a national championship before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Originally from Hercules, California, Moore played her prep basketball at and graduated from Salesian High School in Richmond, California, where she helped her team win the 2015 North Coast Section Division IV Championship and was named the North Coach Section Scholar Athlete of the Year.
While in high school, Moore also played AAU for the Cal Stars, winning a Nike EYBL national title alongside former Cal Stars and Oregon teammate Sabrina Ionescu in 2015.
Personal
Moore completed her bachelor's degree in communications at USC in 2019. She earned a master's degree in advertising and brand responsibility at Oregon the following year.
