Horned Frogs face Arizona on Saturday following 4-0 shutout vs. Bears
LAKE NONA, Fla. – Baylor again was no match for No. 3 TCU and the Horned Frogs punched their ticket to the Big 12 Tournament championship on Friday in Florida.
Facing off with the 11th-ranked Bears for the second time in the last five days, the Horned Frogs blanked their longstanding rival 4-0 in a semifinal dual on the grounds of the USTA National Campus.
TCU (20-5, 7-1 Big 11) won the doubles point on courts two and three and claimed four opening sets in singles to take control of the contest. Cosme Rolland De Ravel, Oliver Bonding and Roger Pascual swept courts two, four and six, in order, to complete the shutout.
The Horned Frogs won their 12th straight match over Baylor (21-9, 6-3 Big 12) in a streak that dates to 2023. Friday's victory was TCU's fourth shutout over the Bears in that span. TCU stretched its lead in the all-time series vs. Baylor to 48-26.
TCU, the No. 2 seed in the six-team affair, now faces top-seeded Arizona (21-3, 8-1 Big 12) at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday for all the marbles. The Wildcats, tabbed No. 9 in the ITA rankings, survived No. 14 UCF 4-3 to set up the championship match.
Bonding was the top performer for the Horned Frogs. The freshman clinched the doubles point alongside Cooper Woestendick on court two via a 6-4 victory over Luc Koenig and Connor Van Schalkwyk. He then hung a pair of 6-4 frames vs. Koenig to stretch the Frogs' lead to 4-0.
Pascual, who continues to lead TCU in dual singles victories (12), did the honors with the match clincher, beating Bowden for the second time in as many starts by a score of 6-3, 6-3.
Rolland De Ravel, the ITA No. 38 singles player, earned the most notable result in a match contested with temperatures exceeding 90 degrees. The senior took out the strongest position in Baylor's lineup, defeating No. 44 Velcz 6-1, 7-5. Velcz entered the postseason clash with a 13-3 record at the position and team-leading 14 dual victories.
TCU notched its ninth victory over a team presently featured in the top-20 of the ITA rankings and seventh away from home. A win over the Wildcats, winners of 16 straight, gives the Horned Frogs a shot at earning the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament depending on results in the SEC Championship.
Saturday's final affords the Frogs an opportunity to avenge a 4-0 defeat to Arizona on March 22 in Tucson in a match that decided the Big 12 regular season championship. The Wildcats were fortunate to play TCU, Baylor and UCF at home. They also drew the Horned Frogs in their first match without Rolland De Ravel but will now battle TCU at full strength and on a neutral court.
Doubles Rundown
TCU's No. 1 ranked doubles tandem of Rolland De Ravel and Chan lost for the first time all season. Velcz and Alexandru Chirita rode an early break to a 6-3 victory over the seemingly automatic pair.
It didn't matter though.
Bonding filled in on the 1-line during Rolland De Ravel's injury absence. With the Frogs' captain back, Bonding slotted in at the third position with fellow freshman Maximus Dussault.
They secured the first break of the doubles point, jumping in front 3-1 vs. Devin Badenhorst and Calven Bairel. The lefty Dussault served out a 6-3 win on a deuce point.
Even as TCU trailed 3-5 on the top court, the pathway to the doubles point was clear.
Pedrico and Woestendick landed the decisive break level at three games all to give TCU the edge on two courts before Baylor clinched at the top. The TCU sophomore duo nearly won their match on a deuce leading 5-3. The Bears saved the game but Woestendick won all four of the subsequent points on serve to put it to bed.
TCU improved to 21-4 in doubles play on the year.
Pedrico and Woestendick moved to 8-2 as partners.
Bonding leads TCU in dual doubles victories (12) and has won four straight completed matches.
Dussault tallied his team-leading eight win on the 3-line.

Singles Rundown
TCU claimed four of the first five completed sets and firmly blocked any pathway to a comeback for Baylor.
Pedrico rolled to a 6-2 first frame vs. Chirita on court five to punctuate the hot start.
The Frogs had ample opportunities to pad their cushion on courts one and three as well.
Chan, TCU's highest-ranked singles player at No. 11, battled the eight-ranked Badenhorst at the top and twice was up a break vs. the 6-7 South African in set one. He eventually dropped a tiebreaker and left his match unfinished trailing 2-4 in the second set.
Woestendick stymied Baylor's best shot at putting a point on the board. He faced Van Schalkwyk in the third flight for the third time this season in a battle of top-60 players.
