Top-seeded Horned Frogs notch 63-46 win; face Kansas State on Saturday
KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Olivia Miles broke TCU's single-season assists record and the 10th-ranked Horned Frogs rolled past BYU and into the semifinals of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament on Friday at the T-Mobile Center.
Miles finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists to pace top-seeded TCU in a 63-46 victory over the Cougars.
Marta Suarez led all players with 17 points while Taylor Bigby tallied 13 to join the duo in double figures. Bigby scored 11 of her points in the first quarter as the Horned Frogs (28-4, 15-3 Big 12) raced out to a 24-8 advantage. TCU led by as many as 20 points in the final period.
The Frogs now face No. 12 seed Kansas State at 3 p.m. on Saturday for the right to defend its 2025 Big 12 Tournament title. The Wildcats erased a nine-point second half deficit in a 74-73 upset of No. 4 Oklahoma State earlier in the day. Kansas State is the lowest seeded team to ever reach the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament.
Miles' second assist of the ballgame arrived at the 5:22 mark of the opening frame and capped a 10-0 run that staked TCU to a 15-2 head start. It was her 205th dime of the season, surpassing Hailey Van Lith's 2024-25 single season record.
TCU knocked down five 3-pointers in the first quarter, including back-to-back from Bigby and Veronica Sheffey that stretched the lead to 21-5. The Frogs outscored the Cougars 21-6 over the final 7:39 of the quarter.
Sheffey scored her 1,000th career point via her deep ball. She finished with seven points.
TCU held BYU (22-11, 9-9 Big 12) to its lowest scoring output of the season and limited the Cougars to a season-worst 27 percent clip (17-63) from the field. BYU had just six field goals in the first half.
Clara Silva and Kennedy Basham anchored the Horned Frogs' stout defensive showing, as the 6-7 centers finished with four blocks apiece.
TCU snagged 43 rebounds – its most ever in a Big 12 Tournament game – as all five starters snagged at least five boards.
BYU used a 9-0 run in the third quarter to halve an 18-point TCU lead to 39-30 with 3:22 to play in the period. Suarez and Miles answered back with consecutive midrange jumpers and the Cougars never again got within single digits.
The duo accounted for 12 of TCU's 18 points in the fourth quarter. TCU shot 8-8 at the foul line over the final 10 minutes and finished 17-18 at the charity stripe for the game. The Horned Frogs set a program record for free throw percentage (.944) in a conference tournament contest.
