One of four players contending for Lieberman Award and Wooden Award
FORT WORTH – For the second time in as many days, Olivia Miles added to her annual accolades acumen, as she was tabbed to the John R. Wooden Award late midseason top 20 watch list.
She was one of only two Big 12 players to merit inclusion on the list, which was determined by a panel of national experts. Miles is now also one of four players in late season consideration for both the Wooden Award, presented annually to the nation's top player by the Los Angeles Athletic Club, and the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award.
The Wooden Award watch list will condense to a final 15-player national ballot in March. By virtue of her inclusion, Miles is now a strong candidate to crack the Wooden Award All-American Team in addition to the Wooden Award Women's Player of the Year honor.
Miles' latest accolade arrived one day after she was tabbed Big 12 Player of the Week for a league-leading third time on Monday.
The graduate student has increased her scoring average to a career-high 21 points per game over the course of conference play. She continues to be the only player in the country averaging at least 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and 1.5 steals per game.
For the year, Miles is averaging a career-high 19.7 points per game on the strength of a career-best 51 percent shooting clip along with 6.8 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game. The New Jersey native is on pace to become only the third player in NCAA history to average at least 19 points, 6.5 assists, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while shooting at least 50 percent from the floor.
She has finished with at least 15 points and five assists 21 times overall and in seven of her last nine conference games this season. Miles leads all active players and ranks 13th in NCAA history with 51 career '15-and-5' games.
Behind Miles, No. 17 TCU (21-4, 9-3 Big 12) remains in control of its destiny to repeat as Big 12 regular season champions and host first and second round games in the NCAA Tournament in March. The Horned Frogs head to Waco to challenge No. 12 Baylor (21-4, 10-2 Big 12) at 6 p.m. on Thursday with first place in the conference standings in the balance. Four of TCU's last six games are opposite teams ranked or receiving votes in the AP Top 25, including Sunday's home tilt vs. No. 19 West Virginia.
