MANHATTAN, Kan. – No. 9 TCU missed an opportunity to take control of the race for the Big 12 Championship on Wednesday, falling 59-50 to 12th-ranked Kansas State in Bramlage Coliseum.
The Wildcats scored seven unanswered points to close out the game and held the Horned Frogs without a field goal over the final 3:58.
An 8-0 run sparked by 3-pointers from Agnes Emma-Nnopu and Madison Conner to begin the fourth quarter lifted TCU to a 44-43 lead with seven minutes remaining. But Kansas State, urged on by a raucous 7,477 fans, turned its next seven offensive possessions into points to thwart TCU's comeback bid.
Kansas State (22-2, 10-1 Big 12) gained a one-game lead on TCU (21-3, 9-2 Big 12) in the conference standings with seven regular season contests remaining.
Serena Sundell scored 23 of her game-high 27 points in the second half, including 15 in a third quarter that saw Kansas State outscore TCU 24-11.
TCU kept Sundell mostly in check throughout the first half, limiting the 6-2 guard to four points, and took a 25-19 edge into the locker room.
In a battle pitting two of the top 20 scoring offenses opposite one another, neither team found a groove early on. TCU, which entered averaging 81 points per game, netted just two over the first 5:30 of the contest. A pair of 3-pointers by Aaliyah Roberson leveled the scoreboard at 8-8 entering the second frame. TCU was pressed into six turnovers over the game's 10 minutes but limited Kansas State to 4-15 shooting.
Five straight points by Hailey Van Lith lifted TCU to its first lead of the night at 18-17 with 2:19 to go before the intermission. A 3-pointer by Conner and four points from Sedona Prince capped a 12-2 TCU run to close the half.
TCU was held without points for at least three minutes to begin each of the first three quarters.
Kansas State connected at a 59 percent clip (16-27) in the second half.
Prince produced her 11th double-double of the season, pairing 14 points with a game-high 11 rebounds.
Fellow Wooden Award candidate Van Lith joined Prince in double figures with 11 points and led all players with five assists.
Roberson finished the game 3-4 from deep. Her third deep ball leveled the game at 32-all early in the third.
TCU dished out a season-low 10 assists against 17 turnovers.
